Structure of Alginic Acid [PDF]
ALGINIC acid, the industrial importance of which is increasing, constitutes a large proportion of the dry weight of certain seaweeds. It is noteworthy among polysaccharides in that it appears to be built up entirely of d-mannuronic acid residues, although its resistance to hydrolysis is so great that no quantitative transformation to d-mannuronic acid ...

Phenol Removal From Aqueous Solutions by Electrocoagulation Technology Using Iron Electrodes: Effect of Some Variables [PDF]
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of electrocoagulation technology using iron electrodes on phenol removal in aqueous solutions. The removal of phenol was investigated in terms of various parameters, namely, current density, phenol and ...

Alginate Lyase of a Novel Algae Fermentation Strain [PDF]
A novel algae fermentation strain was obtained in our previous work. This strain can produce alginate lyase and alcohol dehydrogenase used for the ethanol fermentation from algae.

Decomposition of Alginic Acid by Microorganisms
The present paper deals with the alginase action of the alginic acid decomposing bacteria, Vibrio sp. SO-20 strain, reported in the previous paper. The results are summarized as follows: 1) The bacteria produced adaptively an enzyme, “alginase”, when grown on the synthetic medium containing alginic acid as a source of carbon.

BELIEVING that the usual methods of acetylation give degraded products, Wassermann1 has attempted to acetylate alginic acid with ketene. By this means he succeeded in introducing approximately one acetyl group into each repeating unit of the polymer. Some years ago we studied the action of ketene on alginic acid under various conditions, and although ...
