Synthesis and application of alginate@CuFe2O4 polymeric spheres in 17‐β‐estradiol adsorption processes in Amazonian rivers

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
Magnetic alginate beads, functionalized with copper ferrite, effectively remove 17‐β‐estradiol from Amazonian water, exhibiting optimized 238.65 μg g−1 capacity, fast 40 min kinetics, easy recovery, and successful remediation. Abstract The presence of endocrine‐disrupting compounds, such as 17‐β‐estradiol, in aquatic ecosystems poses a significant ...

Sensing‐Integrated Patient‐Derived Tumorspheres Predict Chemotherapeutic Efficacy via Local Extracellular pH Dynamics

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The study introduces a 3D sensing‐integrated platform enabling real‐time, non‐invasive monitoring of pH dynamics in patient‐derived PDAC tumorspheres. It revealed distinct extracellular acidification patterns under FOLFIRINOX, gemcitabine, and paclitaxel, correlating with therapeutic efficacy.

Encapsulated calcium carbonate suspensions: A drug delivery vehicle sensitive to ultrasound disruption

open access: yesMcGill Journal of Medicine, 2020
A calcium carbonate suspension, encapsulated within particles of calcium alginate hydrogel, is proposed as a drug delivery device susceptible to ultrasound disruption. Spheres approximately 1mm in diameter were prepared by the coaxial airflow method from

Preparation of alginic acid layers on solid substrates for biomedical applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Alginic acid was immobilized on γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane-coated glass as a model substrate since an alginic acid layer was known to prevent cell adhesion.

A Versatile Microfluidic Manufacturing Platform for Macroscale Multicore Hydrogel Capsules Toward Programmable Oral Delivery of Therapeutics

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This study presents a microfluidic fabrication method for millimeter‐scale multicore hydrogel capsules containing multiple aqueous cores physically isolated by oil layers. These macrocapsules exhibit mechanical and chemical robustness effectively protecting cargos under simulated gastric conditions.

Vat Polymerization 3D Printing of Hydrogels With Tunable Porosity

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Nanodroplet emulsion templating enables DLP printing of porous hydrogels with pore sizes tunable across two orders of magnitude, from 46.15 to 0.66 µm. The printed interconnected networks retain high fidelity while improving mechanical robustness and cellular responses, providing a versatile platform for porous hydrogel biofabrication.

Alginic acid aerogel: A heterogeneous Brønsted acid promoter for the direct Mannich reaction

open access: yes, 2015
We demonstrate that highly dispersed alginic acid aerogel beads can function as heterogeneous promoters for Brønsted acid catalyzed reactions. The activity displayed by alginic acid, benchmarked in the three-component direct Mannich reaction, depended
