Algorithmic Information Theory and Cellular Automata Dynamics

We study the ability of discrete dynamical systems to transform/ generate randomness in cellular spaces. Thus, we endow the space of bi-infinite sequences by a metric inspired by information distance (defined in the context of Kolmogorov complexity or algorithmic information theory).

Algorithmic Information Theory and Computational Complexity

We present examples where theorems on complexity of computation are proved using methods in algorithmic information theory. The first example is a non-effective construction of a language for which the size of any deterministic finite automaton exceeds the size of a probabilistic finite automaton with a bounded error exponentially.

Classical probability theory is based on the well known axioms of Kolmogoroff. A characteristic difficulty of this measure-theoretic approach is the physical interpretation of probability: we can observe only the frequency of events and the order in which they occur, not however the probability in the axiomatic sense.
