Algorithms under the Reign of Probability

IEEE Annals of the History of Computing, 2018
This Think Piece situates algorithmic uncertainty as a heightened revival of an earlier social commitment to probabilistic knowing emergent in the interwar period. As a critical site for interdisciplinary exchange, mapping out uncertainty practices and models makes visible the social dimensions and impacts of certainty politics.

Probability, Trees and Algorithms

Oberwolfach Reports, 2015
The subject of this workshop were probabilistic aspects of algorithms for fundamental problems such as sorting, searching, selecting of and within data, random permutations, algorithms based on combinatorial trees or search trees, continuous limits of random trees and random graphs as well as random geometric graphs.

Probability of resolution of the MUSIC algorithm

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1995
The MUSIC algorithm is well known for its high-resolution capability, and various aspects of its statistical performance have been investigated. However, rigorous asymptotic analysis of one of its most important performance measures, the probability of resolution, is not available yet.

Geometrical Probability Covering Algorithm

2005
In this paper, we propose a novel classification algorithm, called geometrical probability covering (GPC) algorithm, to improve classification ability. On the basis of geometrical properties of data, the proposed algorithm first forms extended prototypes through computing means of any two prototypes in the same class.

Emulating Low Probability of Detection Algorithms

2020 30th International Telecommunication Networks and Applications Conference (ITNAC), 2020
Software Defined Radios (SDRs) can be used to create and modify radio waveforms in order to perform research into various wireless network problems. Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) has created the Experimental Framework of SDRs (EFOS) incorporating bespoke SDRs communicating with one another through an RF attenuation matrix.

A Compression Algorithm for Probability Transition Matrices

SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 1998
A novel compression algorithm for probability transition matrices is given. The output from the algorithm is a smaller probability transition matrix with less states. If the probability transition matrix is hard to compress, then the system is probably modeled at a reasonable level of granularity.

Algorithms for Imprecise Probabilities

2000
This paper reviews local computation algorithms to calculate with imprecise probabilities. Most of the existing work on imprecise probabilities has focused on the particular case of interval probabilities [Amarger et al., 1991; de Campos and Huete, 1993; de Campos et al., 1994; Dubois and Prade, 1994; Fagin and Halpern, 1991; Fertig and Breese, 1990 ...

Diagnosis: Use of Clinical Probability Algorithms

Clinics in Chest Medicine, 2010
Evidence suggests that patients with suspected pulmonary embolism are managed better with a diagnostic strategy that includes clinical pretest probability assessment, D-dimer test, and/or imaging. Several clinical prediction rules have been described in the literature during the last decade.
