Shrinkage mechanisms of alkali-activated slag [PDF]

open access: yesCement and Concrete Research, 2016
Abstract In this work, the physical and chemical changes of alkali-activated slag (AAS) after a prolonged drying treatment under various relative humidity (RH) conditions were studied. The results show that the shrinkage kinetics of AAS is strongly dependent on the RH, but irrespective of the moisture loss.

Alkali-Activated Slag Coatings for Fire Protection of OPC Concrete. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel), 2023
During a fire, ordinary Portland cement (OPC) systems lose their mechanical properties. For this reason, it is important to find a way to protect it. This study suggested alternative uses of slag and phosphogypsum to produce coatings for fire-resistant applications. Five compositions of 10 mm thick alkali-activated slag coatings were investigated.

Material characteristics and pollutant diffusion simulation of cutoff walls made of alkali activated slag/bentonite

open access: yesDevelopments in the Built Environment, 2023
To prevent heavy metal pollution, vertical cut-off walls made of cement soil are often used as barriers. This article developed a cementitious material with a “low-carbon footprint” (alkali activated slag) to replace cement.
