Hydration Characteristics and Microstructure of Alkali-Activated Slag Concrete: A Review
Alkali-activated slag concrete (AASC) is a new green building material. The amount of CO 2 produced by AASC is 1/5th of that produced by ordinary Portland cement concrete (OPCC).

The influence of different parameters on the hydration process of binders based on alkali activated slag [PDF]
The influence of certain types of activators (water glass Na2O.nSiO2 and sodium-metasilicate Na2SiO3.5H2O) on the hydration process of alkali activated slag was investigated in this study.

Influence of slag composition on the hydration of alkali-activated slags [PDF]
The hydration of different blast-furnace slags with sodium metasilicate or NaOH as activator was investigated. Sodium metasilicate shows poor strength after 1 day, but high strength after 7 days and beyond, whereas NaOH activation leads to high strength after 1 day , but only moderate strength development at later ages.

Alkali-activated slag concrete with paper industry waste [PDF]
Pulp and paper manufacturing and recycling industries are a resource-intensive sector, generating 25–40% of the annual municipal solid waste worldwide. Waste includes abundant volumes of paper sludge, as well as the product of its incineration, namely paper sludge ash.
