Decalcification resistance of alkali-activated slag
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2012This paper analyses the effects of decalcification in concentrated 6M NH(4)NO(3) solution on mechanical and microstructural properties of alkali-activated slag (AAS). Portland-slag cement (CEM II/A-S 42.5 N) was used as a benchmark material. Decalcification process led to a decrease in strength, both in AAS and in CEM II, and this effect was more ...

Alkali Activated Slag And Portland/Slag Ultrafine Cement
MRS Proceedings, 1989AbstractUltrafine Alkali Activated Slag (AAS) and Portland/Slag (P/S) cements have been commercially available in the United States for 2 and 5 years, respectively. Ultrafine cements have been the subject of research at Northwestern University for 6 years.Particle size of the ultrafine slag cement is characterized by 98% passing at 7 microns and a D50 ...

Alkali activation of Australian slag cements
Cement and Concrete Research, 1999Abstract Investigation of alkali activation of Australian slag (AAS) was carried out using sodium silicate, sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium phosphate, and combinations of these activators. Compressive strengths in the range from 20 to 40 MPa were achieved for the pastes. The most effective activator was liquid sodium silicate.

Composite foamed alkali-activated concrete with slag and steel slag
Magazine of Concrete Research, 2020Thermally expandable foaming microspheres (FMS) are used as a foaming agent in many different fields due to their excellent dimensional stability and elastic properties. In this study, lightweight thermal insulation materials were prepared by adding FMS to foamed concrete containing alkali-activated steel slag and blast-furnace slag.

Alkali activated slag pastes with surface-modified blast furnace slag
Cement and Concrete Composites, 2017Abstract A surface modification method for blast furnace slag particles is newly proposed to retard the setting time and to mitigate the flow loss in alkali activated slag pastes. BFS particles were treated by a NaOH solution and then were carbonated to modify the surface of the particles.

Alkali-Activated Slag--Fly Ash Cements
"SP-114: Fly Ash, Silica Fume, Slag, and Natural Pozzolans in Concrete: Proceedings of the Third International Conference", 1989This paper investigated cements consisting of 60 percent ground granulated blast furnace slag and 40 percent fly ash activated by 7 percent sodium hydroxide. Various slags were used, including some laboratory-made synthetic slags. The influence of additives like superplasticizers and defoaming agents has been examined.

Solidification of nitrate solutions with alkali-activated slag and slag–metakaolin cements
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2015© 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. The solidification of nitrate solutions with alkali-activated slag (AASC) and slag-metakaolin cements (AASMC) and the resulting setting times, compressive strengths, dimensional stability, water resistance, hydration products, microstructures, and macroporous network structures were evaluated. Resistance of alkali-activated slag concrete to alkali–aggregate reaction
Cement and Concrete Research, 2001Abstract This paper presents an investigation into durability of alkali-activated slag (AAS) concrete exposed to alkali–aggregate reaction (AAR). In the concrete prism test method (ASTM C 1293), reactive aggregates introduced in the AAS matrix reacted with alkali–silica gel formed around aggregates.
