Hydration of alkali-activated slag: thermodynamic modelling

Advances in Cement Research, 2007
The composition of solid and liquid phases of alkali-activated slag systems was investigated by thermodynamic modelling. The calculations predict the formation of C(–A)–S–H, stratlingite and hydrotalcite in different alkali-activated slag systems, which agrees well with experimental findings.

Shrinkage Characteristics of Alkali-Activated Slag Cements

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2015
AbstractRecent interest in creating green construction materials has sparked the development of portland cement–free binders. Alkali-activated slag (AAS) concrete has a low embodied energy and comparable or superior strengths to ordinary portland cement (OPC) concrete.

Properties of alkali-activated slag concrete

1986
The study consists of a literal survey of the structure and properties of alkali-activated slag concrete and an experimental study of the properties of the so-called F-concrete. F-cement is finely ground glassy slag to be activated by a combination of alkali metal compounds and rendered consistent in its fresh state by means of lignosulphonates.

Corrosion resistance of alkali-activated slag cement

Advances in Cement Research, 2003
This paper examines the corrosion of alkali-activated blast furnace slag cement in pH 3 nitric acid, pH 3 acetic acid, 30% CaCl2 solution and 15% CO2 atmosphere at relative humidity of 52%. ASTM Type I Portland cement is used as a reference. Experimental results indicate that alkali-activated slag pastes are corroded more slowly than Portland cement ...
