Characterisation of reactive magnesia and sodium carbonate-activated fly ash/slag paste blends [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A system of alkali-activated fly ash (FA)/slag (AAFS) mixtures as a clinkerless cement was investigated with different dosages of Na2CO3, as a sustainable activator.

Synthesis and hydration mechanism of a steel‐making by‐product based quaternary binder suitable for superfine tailings

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
• A novel low‐cost SQB was synthesized and optimized for CSTB. • The synergistic hydration mechanism of sulfate‐activated LS with alkali–sulfate‐activated GGBFS in SQB was revealed. • The SQB has effectively consolidated ST, which have significant potential for both environmental and economic benefits.

Alkali-activated composites based on slags from iron and steel metallurgy [PDF]

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2009
Slag as a secondary raw material from metallurgy is most often heaped in slag disposal areas without any profit. This paper deals with alkali activated slag from iron and steel production which can be used in the building industry.

Evolution of Unconfined Compressive Strength and Microstructural Properties of Geopolymers From Blended Waste Concrete Powder and Metakaolin

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The use of waste concrete powder (WCP) in geopolymer synthesis offers a sustainable method for recycling construction and demolition waste (CDW). However, its low reactivity and high calcium content frequently result in geopolymers with inadequate mechanical strength.

Mechanical and Physical Performance of Mortars Incorporating Crushed Hazelnut Shells as Partial Fine Aggregate Replacement

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study investigates the mechanical and physical properties of mortars incorporating crushed hazelnut shell (HS) as a partial replacement for fine aggregates. Mortar mixtures were prepared with varying water‐to‐cement (w/c) ratios ranging from 0.35 to 0.50 and HS dosages of 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5% by weight, along with reference mixtures without HS.

Effects of three different types of fibers and dosage on the properties of alkali-activated copper slag–slag cementitious materials

open access: yesScientific Reports
The use of copper slag instead of part of the slag to prepare alkali-activated cementitious materials can achieve the resource utilisation of copper slag, but alkali-activated copper slag–slag composite cementitious materials have the disadvantages of ...
