It is well accepted that sucrose (Suc) metabolism is involved in responses to environmental stresses in many plant species. In the present study we showed that alkaline invertase (A-Inv) expression is up-regulated in wheat leaves after an osmotic stress or a low-temperature treatment.

The human host combats fungal infections via phagocytic cells that recognize and kill fungal pathogens. Immune cells combat Aspergillus fumigatus infections with a potent mixture of chemicals, including reactive oxygen species, acidic/alkaline stress, and antifungal drugs.

Insights into the regulation of wild soybean tolerance to salt-alkaline stress
Soybean is an important grain and oil crop. In China, there is a great contradiction between soybean supply and demand. China has around 100 million ha of salt-alkaline soil, and at least 10 million could be potentially developed for cultivated land.

Strigolactone alleviates the salinity-alkalinity stress of Malus hupehensis seedlings
Salinity-alkalinity stress can remarkably affect the growth and yield of apple. Strigolactone (SL) is a class of carotenoid-derived compounds that functions in stress tolerance. However, the effects and mechanism of exogenous SL on the salinity-alkalinity tolerance of apple seedlings remain unclear.

Alkaline Stress Causes Changes in Polyamine Biosynthesis in Thermus thermophilus
An extreme thermophile, Thermus thermophilus, produces 16 different polyamines including long-chain and branched-chain polyamines. The composition and content of polyamines in the thermophile cells change not only with growth temperature but also with pH changes.

Interferon type 1 (IFN‐1) production and signaling is associated with the acquisition of therapy resistance, following chronic DNA damage, via Interferon‐related DNA damage resistance signature (IRDS) gene expression. An alternative, DNA damage‐independent role of sustained IFN‐1 mediated resistance was identified and characterized by the emergence of ...

Modeling of Fiberglass Degradation Process under Stresses and Alkaline Environment
The constitutive relations for fiberglass were obtained. New methods were developed to analyze its behavior as microdamage accumulates and under the exposure to an aggressive alkaline environment. A finite element model was built to assess the stress-strain state of a fiberglass panel for predicting its durability in response to stresses and an ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.
