Association between isolated minor ST-segment and T wave changes with 10 years all-cause and stroke mortality

open access: yesScientific Reports
Minor ST segment and T wave (ST-T) abnormalities are commonly seen on the resting electrocardiograms (ECGs) of healthy individuals, but the long-term effects of these findings, particularly in the general population, have not been thoroughly assessed. As

All-cause mortality of insulin plus dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors in persons with type 2 diabetes

open access: yesBMC Endocrine Disorders, 2019
Background Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors could effectively reduce HbA1C and postprandial hyperglycemia and could incur only minimal danger of hypoglycemia.

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Characteristics of urban regions and all-cause mortality in working-age population [PDF]

open access: yes
Using Finnish register data on individuals linked to information on urban regions, this study aimed to estimate the effects of some regional characteristics on all-cause mortality among working-age population in 1995-2001, and to find out whether these ...

The Impact of Cancer Screening on All-Cause Mortality

open access: yesDeutsches Ärzteblatt international, 2018
It is a matter of debate whether, and if so, to what extent, cancer screening programs reduce all-cause mortality. Against this backdrop, we analyzed potential effects of several cancer screening approaches on all-cause mortality in two representative Western European populations. We used mortality data from the UK (England &Wales) and Germany from 2015

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...
