Opto-Acoustic Oscillator Using Silicon Mems Optical Modulator

open access: yes, 2011
We show operation of a silicon MEMS based narrow-band optical modulator with large modulation depth by improving the electro-mechanical transducer. We demonstrate an application of the narrowband optical modulator as both the filter and optical modulator

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Performance Optimization of SNR and SFDR in RoF Link for the Next Generation Networks

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering
A radio frequency over fibre (RFoF) or radio over fibre is a versatile technology, in which light is modulated with radio frequency signal and an optical fibre link is used as a medium to transmit it.

Intercompartmental communication in senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Senescent cells experience structural changes in the plasma membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, lysosomes, nucleus, and cytoskeleton. These alterations disrupt crosstalk among cellular compartments, impairing vesicular trafficking, contact sites, and molecular flow.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Design, Simulation and Testing of the OOK NRZ Modulation Format for Free Space Optic Communication in a Simulation Box

open access: yesAdvances in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2014
This article deals with the construction of a modulator and demodulator for Free-Space Optical (FSO) communication. In FSO optics, the modulated optical signal is propagated in the constantly changing environment (atmosphere).

Performance evaluation of a MWQ all optical modulator

open access: yes, 1990
Optically controlled Multiple Quantum Well (MWQ) modulators promise to be of great interest for all optical data processing. In this paper we analyze a device, based on a GaAs/AlAs MQW structure, whose principle of operation depends on the controlled excitonic absorption by means of free carrier generation. Such a device, experimentally tested in [1,2,

Age‐Related Characteristics of SYT1‐Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorder

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives We describe the clinical manifestations and developmental abilities of individuals with SYT1‐associated neurodevelopmental disorder (Baker‐Gordon syndrome) from infancy to adulthood. We further describe the neuroradiological and electrophysiological characteristics of the condition at different ages, and explore the associations ...
