Ultrafast all-optical plasmonic graphene modulator
Applied Optics, 2018By utilizing the ultrafast dynamics of the photo-excited electrons in graphene, we theoretically present an ultrafast all-optical plasmonic modulator. With the help of an external pump, the femtosecond thermodynamics of the hot carriers can tune the Fermi level of the graphene sheet in less than 1 ps, which is the dependence of the support for the ...

Population shelved all-optical modulation
Physical Review B, 2003An all-optical modulation method is proposed and experimentally demonstrated to overcome the modulation bandwidth limitations, imposed by the excited-state population decay rate, in a conventional resonant optical modulator. In the experimental demonstration, we have observed an all-optical modulation bandwidth 200 times wider than the population decay

All-optical spatial light modulator with megahertz modulation rates
Optics Letters, 1995We demonstrate a novel all-optical spatial light modulator capable of megahertz modulation rates. It is based on the quantum-confined Stark effect, but the modulating electric field is entirely photogenerated by strongly asymmetric photocarrier transfer in GaAs/AlAs layers.

CdTe:In MONOCRYSTAL MODULES FOR ALL-OPTICAL PROCESSING
Journal of Nonlinear Optical Physics & Materials, 1996The aim of this work is to present the application of photoconductive properties of electro-optical n-doped CdTe:In single crystals to all-optical processing of signals at λ=1550 nm. The mechanism exploits the photogeneration of charge carriers from deep intragap energy levels and their trap-limited drift process under the action of an externally ...

Ultrafast All-Optical Modulation in 2D Hybrid Perovskites
ACS Nano, 2019Two-dimensional (2D) hybrid organic-inorganic Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites (RPPs) have been recently shown to exhibit large nonlinear optical properties due to the strong excitonic effects present in their multiple quantum wells. In this work, we use nondegenerate pump-probe spectroscopy in the 600-1000 nm wavelength range to study the influence of ...

All-optical phase-locked modulator
Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1990An all-fiber erbium-glass laser has been mode locked using an optically-controllable Sagnac loop mirror. By tuning the cavity length of the control laser, cw oscillation of the erbium laser has been observed at frequencies up to 13.8 GHz.

Analytical approach to all-optical modulation by cascading
Optics Letters, 1995We study analytically all-optical modulation by cascading in type II second-harmonic generation and show that this configuration is promising for all-optical signal processing, provided that it is operated near phase matching. Conditions for an effective transistorlike action are derived.

All-optical graphene oxide microfiber modulator
Metamaterials, Metadevices, and Metasystems 2020, 2020In recent decades, research in the field of optoelectronics has attracted great interest. Modulators are one of the most usable optical components in the optical communication systems. The most important parameters for a modulator are high modulation speed, small footprint, and large optical bandwidth.

Ultra-Broadband All-Optical Graphene Modulator
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2018In this letter, a monolayer graphene-clad microfiber device is designed to achieve ultra-broadband all-optical modulation. Based on the broadband advantage of graphene, we sufficiently discussed the priority absorption characteristic of graphene and continuous wave light saturated absorption characteristic of composite waveguide.
