All-optical spatial light modulator with megahertz modulation rates

We demonstrate a novel all-optical spatial light modulator capable of megahertz modulation rates. It is based on the quantum-confined Stark effect, but the modulating electric field is entirely photogenerated by strongly asymmetric photocarrier transfer in GaAs/AlAs layers.

Analytical approach to all-optical modulation by cascading

We study analytically all-optical modulation by cascading in type II second-harmonic generation and show that this configuration is promising for all-optical signal processing, provided that it is operated near phase matching. Conditions for an effective transistorlike action are derived.
