All optical binary delta-sigma modulator
SPIE Proceedings, 2005This paper describes a novel A/D converter called "Binary Delta-Sigma Modulator" (BDSM) which operates only with nonnegative signal with positive feedback and binary threshold. This important modification to the conventional delta-sigma modulator makes the high-speed (>100GHz) all-optical implementation possible.

All-optical optofluidic fiber intensity modulator
2012 ELEKTRO, 2012We present optofluidic fiber intensity modulator based on shaped and metal coated liquid core optical fiber filled with Cargille liquid. Static attenuation of 60 dB was achieved by thermo-optical effect, where focused laser beam was used as a local heating source.

Graphene-cladding-microfiber all-optical modulator
Asia Communications and Photonics Conference 2013, 2013By coating a few-layer-graphene film on the surface of a subwavelength-diameter microfiber that is tapered down from a standard optical fiber, we demonstrated an all-optical ultrafast modulator operating around 1.5-um wavelength with response time of about 2 ps. All-optical signal regeneration of advanced modulation formats
SPIE Proceedings, 2014With growing demand on transmission capacity, spectral-efficient multilevel modulation formats such as quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) become of great interest. One of their weaknesses is high sensitivity to noise accumulation, especially in long-haul transmission systems.

All optical add/drop using modulators
Frontiers in Optics, 2003All Optical Add/Drop which includes optical demultiplexng are important for real-time transmission of high data rates to end users, specifically when access to subsets of a high bit rate data stream is required, for data processing, or to add and drop data channels.

Ultrafast all-optical modulation on a silicon chip
Optics Letters, 2005We experimentally demonstrate ultrafast all-optical modulation using a micrometer-sized silicon photonic integrated device. The device transmission is strongly modulated by photoexcited carriers generated by low-energy pump pulses. A p-i-n junction is integrated on the structure to permit control of the generated carrier lifetimes. When the junction is

Gigahertz All-Optical Modulation Using Reconfigurable Nanophotonic Metamolecules
Nano Letters, 2016We report the design of reconfigurable metamolecules consisting a large array of nanowire featuring U-shaped cross section. These nanoscale metamolecules support colocalized electromagnetic resonance at optical frequencies and mechanical resonance at GHz frequencies with a deep-subdiffraction-limit spatial confinement (∼λ2/100).

Metal Nanoparticle Based All-Optical Photothermal Light Modulator
ACS Nano, 2014We present a simple scheme for the manipulation of light intensity by light mediated by a dissipative process. The implementation employs the heat released by an optically excited plasmonic metal nanoparticle to control the size of an isotropic bubble in a nematic liquid crystal film.

All-optical phase-controlled phase modulators
Journal of the Optical Society of America BIn this study, we aim to develop an all-optical, phase-controlled modulator composed of lasers, optical directional couplers, optical amplifiers, and phase shifters. By employing a two-layer multilayer perceptron with matrix inversion, we determine the coupling ratios of the directional couplers and the phase delays of the phase shifters.

Novel all optical limiter using electroabsorption modulators
Optical Fiber Communication Conference. Technical Digest Postconference Edition. Trends in Optics and Photonics Vol.37 (IEEE Cat. No. 00CH37079), 2002A novel all optical limiter based on a wavelength-converter and a saturable-absorber using electroabsorption modulators has been proposed. Elimination of severe pattern-dependent intensity fluctuations in lO Gbit/s optical signals was successfully demonstrated with this new scheme.
