While most mainstream Muslims invoke Allah by the name “Allah,” or by one of the other names linked to Allah, others see a deep resonance within the cosmos, above all, in the h-m-d sequence that can mean hamid, “praiseworthy,” of Allah or Muhammad, the one who praises, of the Prophet.

If the ordinary believer asks for guidance through prayer and invoking Allah's name, the devout Sufi seeks to access the One beyond and before all that is, or ever will be, through remembrance. Remembrance is an intense, unending pursuit of the deepest interior connection with Allah.
