The mouse allantois: new insights at the embryonic–extraembryonic interface

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2022
During the early development of Placentalia, a distinctive projection emerges at the posterior embryonic–extraembryonic interface of the conceptus; its fingerlike shape presages maturation into the placental umbilical cord, whose major role is to shuttle fetal blood to and from the chorion for exchange with the mother during pregnancy.

The Allantois and Urachus: Histological Study Using Human Embryo and Fetuses

Fetal and Pediatric Pathology, 2021
Relatively little is known about allantois and urachal development in early humans.Serial sagittal histological sections from eight human embryos and fetuses were examined to determine allantois development. At gestational age 6-7 weeks, the primitive allantois consists of an enlarged tube located between the umbilical cord and abdominal cavity, whereas

The avian allantois: A depot for stress-released catecholamines

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1992
Plasma and amniotic and allantoic fluid of 10- and 14-day-old chicken embryos contain free dopamine (DA), norepinephrine (NE), and epinephrine (E). Compared with postnatal chickens, concentrations of DA and E in the plasma are very high, and they are even higher in the allantoic fluid.

Allantois as the bursa-equivalent in man

Medical Hypotheses, 1990
This article proposes the hypothesis that allantois is the anatomical homologue of bursa of Fabricius in mammalia. This hypothesis is based on immunohistochemical study of sections from hematopoietic organs of three fetuses with cloacal exstrophy. In the complex maldevelopment of cloacal exstrophy the common features are absence of distal midgut and ...

Developing allantois is a primary site of 2′-deoxycoformycin toxicity

Teratology, 1996
In this study, an assessment of normal mouse allantoic development and its sensitivity to 2'-(R)-deoxycoformycin (dCF; Pentostatin) exposure were examined. Both dissecting microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to describe the normal growth and morphogenesis of the mouse allantois over gestational days 7-10 as a preliminary step in ...

Embryonic chick allantois: functional isolation and development of sodium transport

American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1986
By removing the shell membranes from the chorioallantoic membrane, the chorion is damaged, as visualized by electron microscopy, and rendered permeable, as evidenced by penetration of horseradish peroxidase and increased inhibition of the allantoic Na+-K+ pump by ouabain applied on the chorionic side.

Passive permeability of ovine amnion and allantois to chloride—gestational changes

Placenta, 1988
The passive permeability to 36Cl of isolated pieces of amnion (112), amniochorion (41) and allantois (54) from 55 pregnant ewes was studied in vitro. There was a significant decrease in the permeability coefficient (K) with increasing age in both amnion and allantois when samples from two age groups (72 to 109; 110 to 147 days of gestation) were ...

Treatment of a Case of Bovine Hydrops Allantois with Cloprostenol

British Veterinary Journal, 1981
SUMMARY A four-year-old Ayrshire cow with hydrallantois was treated with cloprostenol at approximately six months of gestation. The pregnancy was successfully terminated with no post-parturient complications apart from retention of the placenta. Subsequent insemination resulted in the birth of a normal, healthy heifer calf.

Production of Influenza A Virus in the Cells of the Allantois

The Journal of Immunology, 1953
Abstract The first cycle of influenza virus multiplication in the allantois may broadly be divided into three phases—the uptake of inoculated virus by the cells, the multiplication of this virus within the cells, and finally the liberation of newly-formed virus into the allantoic fluid.
