Vascularization in the murine allantois occurs by vasculogenesis without accompanying erythropoiesis
Development, 1998ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to determine whether the blood vessels of the murine allantois are formed by vasculogenesis or angiogenesis. Morphological analysis revealed that differentiation of allantoic mesoderm into an outer layer of mesothelium and an inner vascular network begins in the distal region of the allantois, which is ...

The mechanism of natural resistance of the allantois to influenza infection
Virology, 1959Abstract Eggs differ in their susceptibility to infection by influenza virus. This paper reports an investigation of the causes of this variation in suspended fragments of allantois-on-shell. The total yield of virus from an allantoic membrane is unrelated to the susceptibility of the membrane to infection by small inocula.

Quantitative Analysis of Angiogenesis in the Allantois Explant Model
2012The murine allantois represents a powerful system for the analysis of developmental angiogenesis ex vivo, producing a complex vascular network in less than a day’s time. This can be visualised by appropriate antibody staining. Angiogenesis in the explants occurs in the absence of external, confounding factors.
