Nuclear-localized focal adhesion kinase regulates inflammatory VCAM-1 expression. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) plays important roles in development and inflammation. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) are key regulators of inflammatory and integrin-matrix signaling, respectively.

Mesothelium of the murine allantois exhibits distinct regional properties [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, 2011
AbstractThe rodent allantois is thought to be unique amongst mammals in not having an endodermal component. Here, we have investigated the mesothelium, or outer surface, of murine umbilical precursor tissue, the allantois (∼7.25–8.5 days postcoitum, dpc) to discover whether it exhibits the properties of an epithelium.

Haemogenic endocardium contributes to transient definitive haematopoiesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Haematopoietic cells arise from spatiotemporally restricted domains in the developing embryo. Although studies of non-mammalian animal and in vitro embryonic stem cell models suggest a close relationship among cardiac, endocardial and haematopoietic ...

Comparison of the infectivity of influenza Viruses in two host Systems: the Allantois of infect Eggs and Surviving Allantois-on-Shell [PDF]

open access: yesEpidemiology and Infection, 1958
It is shown that the assay for infectivity in bits of allantois-on-shell, which has been standardized on the BEL strain, is optimal also for nine representative strains of influenza virus tested. On the average, the sensitivity of the technique is the same as of orthodox allantoic infectivity tests; its precision is always higher.
