Effect of Allatectomy, Brain-Cauterization and Juvenoid Treatment on the Activity of some Cellular Enzymes of Schizodactylus Monstrosus Drury

International Journal of Tropical Insect Science, 1982
Changes in the activities of general esterase, l-alanine:2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase (GPT), l-aspartate:2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase (GOT), acid and alkaline phosphatase after allatectomy, brain-cauterization and juvenoid treatment have been studied.

Haemolymph protein profiles in allatectomy-induced trimolters resemble those of a recessive trimolting mutant of the silkworm, Bombyx mori

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1994
Abstract Two types of artificial trimolters named A and B were induced by excising the corpora allata from the normal tetramolter of Bombyx mori at the periods before and after, respectively, the third molt. By using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, these trimolters were analysed for the banding patterns of haemolymph proteins at their final ...

The effect of allatectomy or neurosecretory cell ablation on protein synthesis in the spermathecae ofRhodnius prolixus

International Journal of Invertebrate Reproduction, 1983
An analysis of the incorporation of [3H]leucine into the proteins of the spermathecae in Rhodnius prolixus revealed a gradual increase from the day of emergence until the animals were fed on the tenth day of adult life, when there was a dramatic drop to the original level.

Precocious reprogramming of eupyrene-apyrene spermatogenesis commitment induced by allatectomy of the penultimate larval instar of the moth Actias selene

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1981
Abstract A possible causal relationship between the switch-over from eupyrene to apyrene spermatogenesis and pupation in Lepidoptera was examined in Actias selene. Precocious pupation, 11 days earlier than in the controls, was induced by allatectomy on the first day of the penultimate larval instar.

The effect of allatectomy on glycogen metabolism in the fat body of the female Housefly, musca domestica L.

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1974
Abstract 1. 1. The influence of endocrine factors on the glycogen metabolism of the fat body of the housefly during oogenesis has been studied. 2. 2. When the corpus allatum-cardiacum complex was removed, the glycogen level in the adult fat body remained lower on a fat body dry weight basis, and the ability to incorporate U-14C glucose into ...

Activity and Distribution of Five Digestive Enzymes in the Gut of Gryllotalpa Gryllotalpa Curtis (Gryllotalpidae: Orthoptera) After Allatectomy, Brain Cauterization and Juvenoid Treatment.

Australian Journal of Zoology, 1983
A study was made on the effects of allatectomy, brain cauterization and juvenoid treatment on the activities and distribution of protease, amylase, lipase, trypsin and chymotrypsin in various regions of the gut of the adult mole-cricket, Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa (Curtis). Allatectomy resulted in a significant reduction in the amount of protease, lipase,

Control of juvenile hormone biosynthesis during the reproductive cycle of a viviparous cockroach II. Effects of unilateral allatectomy, implantation of supernumerary corpora allata, and ovariectomy

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1978
Using a direct radiochemical assay, the effects of implantation of supernumerary corpora allata (CA), unilateral allatectomy, and ovariectomy on rates of juvenile hormone (JH) biosynthesis by the CA and on the duration of the gonotrophic cycle have been investigated during the first gonotrophic cycle of the viviparous cockroach Diploptera punctata ...

Histological changes in the ovary in relation to yolk deposition, allatectomy, and destruction of the median neurosecretory cells in Melanoplus sanguinipes

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1976
Histological changes in the ovary during periods of yolk deposition suggest that differentiation of the follicular epithelium and oolemma is an essential prerequisite to the pinocytotic uptake of protein into the oocytes. Before vitellogenesis, intercellular spaces form between adjacent follicle cells, and a brush border appears along the oocyte ...

The effects of allatectomy and juvenile hormone replacement on the development of host‐seeking behaviour and lactic acid receptor sensitivity in the mosquito Aedes aegypti

Medical and Veterinary Entomology, 1989
ABSTRACT. Host‐seeking behaviour in newly emerged Aedes aegypti (L.) females is not expressed immediately after adult eclosion but develops gradually over a period of approximately 3–4 days.

Ommochrome synthesis and kynurenic acid excretion in relation to metamorphosis and allatectomy in the stick insect, Carausius morosus Br.

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1979
Abstract End products of tryptophan metabolism in Carausius morosus are the ommochromes ommin and xanthommatin in the epidermis, and kynurenic acid in the faeces. During larval and adult life ommochromes and mainly kynurenic acid are formed. The concentration of kynurenic acid in the faeces of adult females is 2.5 times lower than in the larvae and ...
