The Nuclear Receptor Testicular Receptor 4 Orchestrates Cytoskeletal Organization in a G Protein Subunit Alpha 12/Rho‐Associated Protein Kinase–Dependent Manner to Promote Myofibroblast Differentiation and Tissue Fibrosis in Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Members of the superfamily of nuclear receptors have been implicated in inflammatory processes and pathologic tissue remodeling and have emerged as attractive targets for pharmaceutical intervention. However, the role of testicular receptor 4 (TR4; or Nr2c2) in fibroblast activation and rheumatologic diseases has not yet been investigated ...

Allergic sensitization related to age and clinical presentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016

Transcriptomic Profiling in Skeletal Muscle Identifies Associations With Knee Osteoarthritis: the Study of Muscle, Mobility and Aging (SOMMA)

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objectives The association between skeletal muscle gene expression and knee osteoarthritis (OA) was examined among older adult participants of the Study of Muscle, Mobility and Aging (SOMMA). Methods Inclusion criteria included knee radiographs and bulk RNA sequencing (RNAseq) in vastus lateralis muscle, resulting in 523 participants (56% female ...

Distinct IgE sensitization profiles in chronic urticaria: a comparative study with classic allergic diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
IntroductionChronic urticaria (CU) is not traditionally classified as an allergic disease, but emerging evidence suggests a link to atopy. The quintessential marker of atopy is IgE sensitization, there is scarce information on the IgE sensitization ...

Genome-Wide Scan on Total Serum IgE Levels Identifies FCER1A as Novel Susceptibility Locus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
High levels of serum IgE are considered markers of parasite and helminth exposure. In addition, they are associated with allergic disorders, play a key role in anti-tumoral defence, and are crucial mediators of autoimmune diseases.

Dissecting the dissection laboratory: Elements for designing a human anatomy laboratory

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract The human anatomy dissection laboratory is a critical component of anatomical and medical education. Development, maintenance, and stocking of these laboratory spaces have unique demands, with all of the challenges in running a laboratory with Biosafety Laboratory Level 2 (BSL‐2) classification, housing a large volume of tissues saturated with

Alarming Dendritic Cells for Allergic Sensitization

open access: yesAllergology International, 2010
Allergic patients mount a Th2 response to common allergens, like house dust mite (HDM), pollens, molds and animal dander. Most inhaled antigens are immunologically inert, however if these antigens are accompanied by microbial or endogenous danger patterns (alarmins), they can be recognized by inflammatory cells.

Navigating adverse immunostimulation: A practical guide for clinical researchers

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Problem Setting As drug development moves towards more complex products, early clinical development programmes are increasingly hampered by unwanted and/or unexpected activation of the immune system (adverse immune stimulation, AIS). Solution At the Centre for Human Drug Research, we have introduced standardized procedures to make AIS manageable, while

HLA‐B*15:21 carrier status is a susceptibility factor of carbamazepine‐induced nonimmediate cutaneous adverse reactions in HLA‐B*15:02‐negative patients: A retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
After HLA‐B*15:02 screening, the residual risk of carbamazepine‐induced nonimmediate cutaneous adverse reactions is 0.059. Among these HLA‐B*15:02‐negative cases, HLA‐B*15:11 and HLA‐B*15:21 carrier status significantly increases the risk of carbamazepine‐induced nonimmediate cADR.

Allergic Contact Sensitization to the Toluic Acids

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1973
Para-toluic acid (1:4 methylbenzoic acid) and ortho-toluic acid were found to be potent allergic sensitizers when applied to human skin. Cross-sensitivity was found between all three isomers, p-toluic, m-toluic, and o-toluic acids. It is suggested that this cross-sensitivity is explicable in terms of carrier protein specificity rather than by the ...
