Allicin-Inspired Heterocyclic Disulfides as Novel Antimicrobial Agents
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2022In this work, a series of derivatives with disulfide bonds containing pyridine, pyrimidine, thiophene, thiazole, benzothiazole, and quinoline were designed and synthesized based on the various biological activities of allicin disulfide bond functional groups.

Pharmacokinetics of Vinyldithiins, Transformation Products of Allicin
Planta Medica, 1992The pharmacokinetic behaviour of vinyldithiins, the main constituents of oily preparations of garlic (Allium sativum L.), was investigated after oral administration of 27 mg 2-vinyl-4H-1,3-dithiin and 9 mg 3-vinyl-4H-1,2-dithiin to rats. In serum, kidney, and fat tissue, both vinyldithiins could be detected by GC-MS over a period of 24 h, whereas in ...

Toxicity of pterygospermin and allicin
Proceedings / Indian Academy of Sciences, 19491. The cumulative subcutaneous L.D.50 of allicin is 5 mg./kg. and its acute subcutaneous toxicity 50 mg./kg. 2. The intraperitoneal toxic dose of allicin at which 50% mortality occurred is 20 mg./kg. 3. The cumulative subcutaneous L.D.50 of pterygospermin is about 50 mg. and acute subcutaneous L.D.50 300 mg./kg. 4.

Allicin Characterization and its Determination by HPLC
Planta Medica, 1987Allicin has been synthesized and was purified by liquid chromatography. HPLC chromatograms recorded at different wavelengths reveal pure allicin at similar retention times. The purity of the allicin peak could be confirmed by diode array detection.

The current research article deals with anti–angiogenesis study between allicin nano particle and normal allicin from Garlic (Allium sativum L). Since last year’s Garlic has been used for treating various purposes and its consumption is said to reduce health risk and its organosulfur components effectively block cancer cell growth ...

Impact of allicin on macrophage activity
Food Chemistry, 2012Abstract Allicin (diallyl thiosulphinate) is the main antimicrobial constituent of garlic. It has been suggested for use as an antibiotic, or for treating diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Yet, several lines of evidence indicate that allicin affects cells of the immune system.

Stability of Allicin in Garlic Juice
Journal of Food Science, 1989ABSTRACT Stability of allicin in garlic juice was evaluated by gas chromatography (GC) and nonhealing HPLC. Allicin in garlic juice decreased to a nondetectable amount after 144 hr at 40°C. Because of heating effects, allicin, in GC analysis, was converted to 2‐vinyl‐[4H]‐1,3‐dithiin and 3‐vinyl‐[4H]‐1,2‐dithiin but not 3‐vinyl‐l,2 ...
