Embryological development of Caiman latirostris (Crocodylia: Alligatoridae) [PDF]

open access: yesgenesis, 2008
AbstractA standard development embryological series is the primary basis to organize information of any embryological study and is also used to determine the age of eggs and embryos in field conditions. In this article, we calibrate developmental series of the broad‐snouted caiman, Caiman latirostris, against an established series for Alligator ...

Effective population size of broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) in Brazil: A historical and spatial perspective

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2021
Caiman latirostris has a large geographic distribution, that includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. In Brazil illegal hunting and land use change have caused population decline, relatively well documented in the last three decades ...

Vocal patterns of adult females and juveniles Caiman yacare (Crocodilia: Alligatoridae) in Brazilian Pantanal wetland

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2013
The Paraguayan caiman (Caiman yacare) is the main Caimaninae species occurring in the Brazilian Pantanal Wetland. Despite the relative availability of works focused on biology and conservation of the Paraguayan caiman, almost nothing is known about its ...

Capture methods of Caiman latirostris Daudin, 1802 (Crocodylia, Alligatoridae) in northern Uruguay, with notes of defensive and feeding behaviours

open access: yesRevista de Biologia Neotropical / Journal of Neotropical Biology, 2023
Caiman latirostris is a Neotropical crocodilian for which there is scarce natural history information in regard to other species, as also about survey methods used by field researchers.

MUSCULAR ANATOMY OF THE THORAX AND THORACIC LIMB OF Caiman Crocodilus (LINNAEUS, 1758) (CROCODYLIA: ALLIGATORIDAE) BY MEANS OF DIGITAL DISSECTION AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODELS

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences, 2023
The Caiman crocodilus , popularly known as alligator , is a species of crocodilian, which has a crest or "forehead" described as "in crescent shape", observed, immediately, dorsal in relation to the eyes, as well as above the dorsal region of the snout ...

Skull Anatomy of the Bizarre Crocodylian Mourasuchus nativus (Alligatoridae, Caimaninae) [PDF]

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, 2012
AbstractMourasuchus is a Miocene alligatorid endemic to South America, and is represented by four species. Together with the closely related Purussaurus, it is a peculiar crocodylian taxon of neogene Caimaninae and one of the most bizarre forms among eusuchian crocodiles. The phylogenetic relationships between Mourasuchus species have not been explored,

THE SPETACLED CAIMAN (Caiman crocodilus, CROCODYLIA, ALLIGATORIDAE) AS A PREDATOR OF THE AMAZON SAILFIN-CATFISH (Pterygoplichthys pardalis, SILURIFORMES, LORICARIDAE)

open access: yesRevista Latinoamericana de Herpetología, 2023
We report an event of a Caiman crocodilus consuming the catfish Pterygoplichthys pardalis. A list of known prey items of C. crocodilus was also compiled from the literature, including known vertebrate and invertebrate items for this species.

Comparative analysis of cranial suture complexity in the genus Caiman (Crocodylia, alligatoridae) [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Biologia, 2000
The variation in degrees of interdigitation (complexity) in cranial sutures among species of Caiman in different skull regions was studied by fractal analysis. Our findings show that there is a small species effect in the fractal dimension of cranial sutures, but most variation is accounted for by regional differentiation within the skull.
