Comparative analysis of cranial suture complexity in the genus Caiman (Crocodylia, alligatoridae) [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Biologia, 2000
The variation in degrees of interdigitation (complexity) in cranial sutures among species of Caiman in different skull regions was studied by fractal analysis. Our findings show that there is a small species effect in the fractal dimension of cranial sutures, but most variation is accounted for by regional differentiation within the skull.

Evolution of posture in amniotes–Diving into the trabecular architecture of the femoral head

open access: yesJournal of Evolutionary Biology, Volume 36, Issue 8, Page 1150-1165, August 2023., 2023
We use 3D microanatomical parameters measured at the femoral head to study femoral posture in amniotes. We show that these parameters are not good indicators of femoral posture. Methods of ancestral state reconstruction hold great promise for improving our understanding of the evolution of posture in amniotes.

Neuroanatomy of the crocodylian Tomistoma dowsoni from the Miocene of North Africa provides insights into the evolutionary history of gavialoids

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 243, Issue 1, Page 1-22, July 2023., 2023
We compared the neuroanatomy of Tomistoma dowsoni, a fossil gavialoid crocodylian from the Miocene of North Africa, to the two extant gavials, Gavialis gangeticus and Tomistoma schlegelii. Tomistoma dowsoni displays an intermediate morphology between the two extant gavials, with a closer resemblance to Gavialis.

Effects of In Vivo Exposure to Roundup® on Immune System of Caiman latirostris. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Roundup® (RU, glyphosate-based formulation) on some parameters of the immune system and growth of Caiman latirostris. Seventy-two caimans (20-day-old) from Proyecto Yacaré (Gob. Santa Fe/MUPCN) were used.

Osteology and cranial musculature of Caiman latirostris (crocodylia: Alligatoridae)

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, 2011
AbstractCaiman latirostris Daudin is one of the extant species of Caimaninae alligatorids characterized taxonomically only by external morphological features. In the present contribution, we describe the cranial osteology and myology of this species and its morphological variation. Several skull dissections and comparisons with other caimans were made.

Mating System ofCaiman yacare(Reptilia: Alligatoridae) Described from Microsatellite Genotypes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Heredity, 2016
The yacare caiman (Caiman yacare) is a reptile from South America and 1 of the 2 crocodilian species present in Argentina. The degradation of their natural habitat and strong hunting pressure led to a sharp numerical decline of wild populations. Nowadays, C.

Wild Encounters: Analyzing Human-Animal Interactions in British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums Facilities. [PDF]

open access: yesZoo Biol
We investigated the quantity and diversity of animal–visitor interactions in BIAZA‐accredited facilities, finding 740 opportunities for interactions across a range of contexts including walkthroughs and handling. Meet and greets were the most offered and were influenced by the number of individual animals, cost of interaction, and animal popularity ...
