Flavonoids in Onion Cultivars ( Allium cepa L.)

Journal of Food Science, 2008
ABSTRACT:  Total phenol and flavonoid contents were analyzed by HPLC coupled with a diode array detector in 5 traditional onion cultivars from Tenerife (Guayonje, San Juan de la Rambla, Carrizal Alto, Carrizal Bajo, and Masca) and a commercial cultivar (Texas Early Grano 502).

Meristem-tip culture of Allium cepa L.

Scientia Horticulturae, 1985
Abstract Isolated meristem tips of onion gave rise to complete plants. Roots were formed directly without transfer of the shoots to a separate rooting medium. The plants produced were all diploid.

2022
The effect of a solution of quantum dots based on cadmium telluride (CdTe QD) as a powerful cytostatic effector was investigated, by using a standard Allium-test system. The cytostatic effects of the experimental CdTe QD solution at the organismal level were manifested in a decrease in the linear growth and biomass of Allium cepa L.

Crossing experiments in Allium L. section Cepa

Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 1992
VAN RAAMSDONK, L. W. D., WIETSMA, W. A. & DE VRIES, J. N., 1992. Crossing experiments in Allium L. section Cepa. A full diallel was carried out with six diploid species of Allium section Cepa and A. roylei of section Rhizirideum, High isolation barriers were found between the related species A. cepa and A. oschaninii, between A.

Haploidy in onion (Allium cepa L.) and other Allium species

1996
The genus Allium contains some of the most important vegetables and spices used throughout the world including onion, leek, garlic, and shallot. Additional Allium species are cultivated more regionally including chives (A. schoenoprasum L.), Chinese chives (A. tuberosum Rottl. ex Spr. and A. ramosum L.), rakkyo (A. chinense G. Don), and A. hookeri Thw.

Pollen competition in onion (Allium cepa L.)

Euphytica, 1981
Pollen mixtures with two components, one of which carried a dominant marker gene for red or white bulb skin colour, were used to pollinate flowers on onion umbels from several cultivars. Scoring progenies for the marker revealed that pollen components differed in their ability to effect fertilization, suggesting that gametophytic competition can occur ...
