Steroidal Glycoside From Allium porrum
Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 2018New steroidal glycoside 1 was isolated by fractionating total extracted substances from Allium porrum. Its structure was determined as (25R)-5_-spirostane-3β,6β-diol-2,12-dione 3-O-{β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)]-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-Dgalactopyranoside} using chemical transformations, physical ...

The Sapogenins of Allium porrum L.
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1998A chemical study of the sapogenin content has been conducted on leek, A. porrum L., sown and collected at different times. As a result of this investigation, a variability in the sapogenin composition depending from the climate was observed. In addition, a novel sapogenin named porrigenin C (1a), and its 25S epimer (1b) have been isolated, together ...

Chitinase in roots of mycorrhizal Allium porrum: regulation and localization
Planta, 1989Chitinase (EC 3.2.1.14) activity was measured in roots of Allium prorrum L. (leek) during development of a vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis with Glomus versiforme (Karst.) Berch. During the early stages of infection, between 10 and 20 d after inoculation, the specific activity of chitinase was higher in mycorrhizal roots than in the ...

Accumulation of apocarotenoids in mycorrhizal roots of leek (Allium porrum)
Phytochemistry, 2008Colonization of the roots of leek (Allium porrum L.) by the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Glomus intraradices induced the formation of apocarotenoids, whose accumulation has been studied over a period of 25 weeks. Whereas the increase in the levels of the dominating cyclohexenone derivatives resembles the enhancement of root length colonization, the ...

An ultrastructural study of plant cell (Allium porrum) centromeres
Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1980A number of reports have appeared in recent years on the presence of fibrillar nuclear formations in plant cells. Owing to their intimate association with the chromosomes as well as to their ultracytochemical characteristics, these spherical structures have been assumed to represent centromeres.

AFLP marking of the genotypes of leek (Allium porrum) varieties
Russian Journal of Genetics, 2011The results of the AFLP analysis of 16 leek (Allium porrum) accessions and related species of the sections of the genus Allium are presented. Restriction enzymes and primer combinations for the identification of the genotypes of the A. porrum accessions were chosen.

Plant Cell Reports, 2005
Transgenic leek (Allium porrum) and garlic (Allium sativum) plants have been recovered by the selective culturing of immature leek and garlic embryos via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation using a method similar to that described by Eady et al. (Plant Cell Rep 19:376-381, 2000) for onion transformation.

Cytotoxic Saponins from Bulbs of Allium porrum L.
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2000An extensive phytochemical analysis of the saponin content has been undertaken on leek, Allium porrum L., sown and collected at different seasons. As a result of this investigation, eight saponins (1-8) have been isolated, four of them (5-8) being novel compounds.

Spirostanol saponins of Allium porrum L.
Phytochemistry, 1999An investigation of the extracts from bulbs of Allium porrum L. has led to the isolation of four spirostanol saponins. Two of them are new compounds and have been identified as: (25R)-5 alpha-spirostan-3 beta, 6 beta-diol 3-O-{O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-O-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->3)]-O- beta -D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->4)-beta-D-galactopyranoside} (3)
