An ultrastructural study of plant cell (Allium porrum) centromeres

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1980
A number of reports have appeared in recent years on the presence of fibrillar nuclear formations in plant cells. Owing to their intimate association with the chromosomes as well as to their ultracytochemical characteristics, these spherical structures have been assumed to represent centromeres.

Spirostanol saponins of Allium porrum L.

Phytochemistry, 1999
An investigation of the extracts from bulbs of Allium porrum L. has led to the isolation of four spirostanol saponins. Two of them are new compounds and have been identified as: (25R)-5 alpha-spirostan-3 beta, 6 beta-diol 3-O-{O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-O-[beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->3)]-O- beta -D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->4)-beta-D-galactopyranoside} (3)

SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT FOR OUTDOOR SOILLESS PRODUCTION OF LEEK (ALLIUM PORRUM)

Acta Horticulturae, 2012
Current open field vegetable production systems in The Netherlands do not meet market and society demands. Among the most important demands are: (1) the EU Water Framework Directive, requesting strong reductions in emissions of nutrients and pesticides to surface- and groundwater; (2) continuous delivery of uniform, high quality products by retailers ...

AFLP marking of the genotypes of leek (Allium porrum) varieties

Russian Journal of Genetics, 2011
The results of the AFLP analysis of 16 leek (Allium porrum) accessions and related species of the sections of the genus Allium are presented. Restriction enzymes and primer combinations for the identification of the genotypes of the A. porrum accessions were chosen.

Germination and B Chromosomes in Allium porrum L.

Journal of Plant Physiology, 1985
Summary The effect of B chromosomes upon germination time was investigated in a single cultivar of leek seeds ( Allium porrum L., cultivar Musselburgh). Seeds with Bs germinated approximately 1 day earlier than seeds without Bs but differences in percentage cumulative germination were significant on one day only.

Acyl-CoA Elongation Systems in Allium porrum Microsomes

1987
The synthesis of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA) has been demonstrated in cell-free preparations fron higher plants1,2,3. The leek epidermal cell microscme system is the best documented4,5,6 and it is in this system that the existence of an endogenous precursor ATP-dependent elongation system was established4.
