Dietary Intervention With Lutein, Docosahexaenoic Acid, and Choline During Early Development Improves Recognition Memory in Young Adult Females in an Experimental Model

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 17, 15 September 2026.
Our study investigates the effects of perinatal supplementation with lutein, DHA, and choline in a controlled rat model. The results show: (1) strictly sex‐specific effects exclusively observed in female rats, (2) lutein‐dependent and synergistic effects, (3) enhancement of long‐term recognition memory, and (4) no effects on locomotor activity, anxiety‐

Age‐ and Growth‐Based Life‐History Traits of Striated Surgeonfish (Ctenochaetus striatus) and Achilles Tang (Acanthurus achilles) from Miti‘āro, Cook Islands

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, Volume 60, Issue 3, September 2026.
Striated surgeonfish (Ctenochaetus striatus) and Achilles tang (Acanthurus achilles) are two surgeonfish species commonly harvested for subsistence on Miti‘āro, Cook Islands. Using individuals collected by local fishers, this study provides the first age‐ and growth‐based assessment of these species from Miti‘āro.

Facilitating macrosystem biology with organismal‐scale airborne remote sensing: Challenges and opportunities

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 9, Page 2760-2776, September 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Emergent ecosystem properties, such as population and trait distributions, biodiversity and energy and water fluxes, occur because of the dynamic interactions of individuals in their environment.

Trait responses to competition are mostly parallel among competitor plants but can cause convergence or divergence in key traits

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 9, Page 2830-2842, September 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plants competing for resources exhibit different traits than plants which are not. Phenotypic plasticity can shape competition by altering trait differences between competitors.

Relationships between human tibia diaphysis shape and experimental injury outcomes

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, Volume 71, Issue 5, Page 1979-1992, September 2026.
Abstract Interpretation is central to skeletal trauma analysis; however, the influence of intrinsic skeletal variation, such as long bone shape, on injury is not fully understood. While previous studies have emphasized extrinsic variables such as loading rate, direction, and number of impacts, this study investigates whether diaphyseal shape variation ...
