A Variational Beam Model for Failure of Cellular and Truss‐Based Architected Materials
Herein, a versatile and efficient beam modeling framework is developed to predict the nonlinear response and failure of cellular, truss‐based, and woven architected materials. It enables the exploration of their design space and the optimization of their mechanical behavior in the nonlinear regime. A variational formulation of a beam model is presented

Molecular dynamics study of plasticity in Al-Cu alloy nanopillar due to compressive loading [PDF]
In this paper, compressive loading effects on the plasticity of Al-Cu alloy varying the crystal orientation of Al and alloying element (Cu) percentage are investigated using molecular dynamics approach. The alloying percentage of Cu are varied up to 10% in <001>, <110> and <111> crystal loading direction of Al.

Mechanical Property Design of Bio-compatible Mg alloys using Machine-Learning Algorithms [PDF]
Magnesium alloys are attractive options for temporary bio-implants because of their biocompatibility, controlled corrosion rate, and similarity to natural bone in terms of stiffness and density. Nevertheless, their low mechanical strength hinders their use as cardiovascular stents and bone substitutes.

We provide a step‐by‐step guide for producing E140 antigen fragments from Plasmodium berghei (Pb1) and Plasmodium vivax (Pv1). Pb1/Pv1 are expressed in E. coli, solubilized by freeze–thawing, refolded by slow dilution, purified by affinity chromatography (IMAC), then concentrated and subjected to quality control.

A numerical scheme is presented to design a lattice support for metallic components additively built via laser powder bed fusion. Results show that thermal‐induced distortion can be respectively reduced by 69%, 58%, and 50% in comparison to a uniform lattice, a fully solid support, and a truss‐based lattice support.

Alloying induced degradation of the absorption edge of InAs_{x}Sb_{1-x} [PDF]
InAs_{x}Sb_{1-x} alloys show a strong bowing in the energy gap, the energy gap of the alloy can be less than the gap of the two parent compounds. We demonstrate that a consequence of this alloying is a systematic degradation in the sharpness of the absorption edge.

Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.

Effect of Heating Rate on Creep Aging Behavior of 2219 Aluminum Alloy
Effect of heating rate on creep aging behavior and mechanical properties in the process of creep aging forming of 2219 aluminum alloy was studied. In order to simulate the temperature conditions of the component in autoclave, heating rate was reduced to ...
