Efficient Process Development for Laser Powder Bed Fusion of a Soft‐Magnetic Metallic Glass Composite

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Iron‐based metallic glass alloys exhibit excellent soft‐magnetic properties, and unprecedented geometrical freedom in the design of soft‐magnetic metallic glass components is made possible by additive manufacturing. An efficient workflow for developing parameters for laser‐based powder bed fusion of a Fe‐based metallic glass alloy is presented along ...

Origin of the anomalous piezoelectric response in wurtzite Sc$_x$Al$_{1-x}$N alloys

open access: yes, 2010
The origin of the anomalous, 400% increase of the piezoelectric coefficient in Sc$_x$Al$_{1-x}$N alloys is revealed. Quantum mechanical calculations show that the effect is intrinsic.

Effects of Carbon Nanoparticles on Triboelectro‐Induced Surface Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon nanoparticles added to grease modify the electrocontact behavior. The synergy of particle concentration and electric current dominates the surface damage of metals in contact. Electrical surface damage caused by current leakage is a critical challenge in high‐performance applications such as electric vehicle (EV) drivetrains and wind turbine ...

Reduction of thermal conductivity in PbTe:Tl by alloying with TlSbTe_2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A series of s ingle-phase polycrystalline (TlSbTe_2)_x(Tl_(0.02)Pb_(0.98)Te)_(1-x) (x=0, 0.05, 0.1) compounds were made to reduce thermal conductivity while maintaining the enhanced Seebeck coefficients found in PbTe doped with Tl.

Hybridization Mechanism for Cohesion of Cd-based Quasicrystals

open access: yes, 2001
Cohesion mechanism of cubic approximant crystals of newly discovered binary quasicrystals, Cd$_6$M (M=Yb and Ca), are studied theoretically. It is found that stabilization due to alloying is obtained if M is an element with low-lying unoccupied $d ...

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.
