Effect of extrusion ratio on microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-6Sn-3Al-1Zn alloy

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2022
The Mg–6Sn–3Al–1Zn (wt%) alloy was prepared by casting and then deformed by hot extrusion at 350 °C with different extrusion ratios (9:1, 13:1, 20:1), extrusion rate was 20 mm min ^−1 . The microstructure of as-extruded alloy was analyzed by XRD and EBSD,

Reliable irogane alloys and niiro patination—further study of production and application to jewelry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Japanese metalworkers use a wide range of irogane alloys (shakudo, shibuichi), which are colored with a single patination solution (niiro eki). This approach allows different alloys to be combined in one piece and patinated, producing a multi-colored ...

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Effect of epoxy resin/mineralized film composite coating on the corrosion resistance of Mg-3Nd alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Adding an anti-corrosion coating to the surface of magnesium (Mg) alloy is an effective means to improve its corrosion resistance, but it is particularly important to enhance the bonding force between the anti-corrosion coating and the Mg matrix.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The Influence of Centerline Segregation on Impact Toughness in Welding Heat-Affected Zone of X70 Pipeline Steel

open access: yesMetals
The influence of centerline segregation on the low-temperature impact toughness of the heat-affected zone (HAZ) of welded joints was studied by welding experiments on X70 steel plates rolled from continuous casting slabs with segregation grades of class ...

Mechanisms of formation of nanostructured electrolytic coatings Fe-Ni, Co-Mn, Ni-Cr with functional properties

open access: yesАрхитектура, строительство, транспорт, 2023
The evolution of modern industry is impossible without the development of new materials and technologies. Nanostructured coatings, in particular electrolytic coatings, are among the most demanded in mechanical engineering. The purpose of this work was to

Modelling the corrosion behaviour of Al2CuMg coarse particles in copper-rich aluminium alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The corrosion behaviour of 2024 aluminium alloy in sulphate solutions was studied; attention was focused on the influence of coarse intermetallic Al2CuMg particles on the corrosion resistance of the alloy.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
