Assessing the exposure of forest habitat types to projected climate change-Implications for Bavarian protected areas. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2019
Climate change particularly affects forest ecosystems due to their longevity and slow migration response. Using ensembles of species distribution models, this study analyzed the exposure of forest habitat types from the EU Habitats Directive to projected climate change.

Distribution maps of vegetation alliances in Europe

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 25, Issue 1, January/March 2022., 2022
We provide distribution maps for 1,105 phytosociological alliances of vascular‐plant dominated vegetation listed in the EuroVegChecklist. The alliances were mapped in 82 territorial units, in which three levels of occurrence probability are indicated: (a) verified occurrence; (b) uncertain occurrence; and (c) absence.

Forest Herb‐Layer Species Richness in the Western Balkan Diversity Hotspot

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 37, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
Forest herb‐layer richness in Montenegro ranges from 7 to 149 species per 100 m2. Thermophilous oak forests on base‐rich soil often harbour more than 90 vascular plant species per 100 m2. Mean annual temperature, summer precipitation, terrain ruggedness, soil pH and tree‐layer cover are the main factors shaping herb‐layer species richness patterns ...
