Herbicide-resistance to mesosulfuron + iodosulfuron in Alopecurus myosuroides (black-grass).
Communications in agricultural and applied biological sciences, 2009A formulated mixture of two sulfonylurea herbicides, mesosulfuron and iodosulfuron, combined with the safener mefenpyr-diethyl ('Atlantis') is being used extensively in Europe and there is concern that resistance will evolve in Alopecurus myosuroides (black-grass).

Effect of vernalization on the development and growth of Alopecurus myosuroides
Weed Research, 2002Alopecurus myosuroides is an annual winter grass weed present in many winter and spring crops. The vernalization responses of three populations of A. myosuroides were assessed using natural exposure during winter in two field experiments and using cold exposure of imbibed seeds in a refrigerator in two greenhouse experiments.

Black-grass is a common grass weed, widely spread in Northern Europe and also in Belgium. For ages, it has been an increasing problem in industrial crops, especially winter cereals. Therefore, farmers started to spray herbicide intensively and soon cases of failure occurred for different molecules and different modes of action.

Influence of soil moisture on isoproturon activity against Alopecurus myosuroides
Weed Research, 1985Summary Alopecurus myosuroides Huds. (blackgrass) in sandy loam soil in pots was treated at the three‐leaf stage with formulated isoproturon. Damage to plants resulted mainly from herbicide entry via the soil. When the soil moisture levels were maintained close to 50, 100 and 150% of field capacity (FC) throughout the experiment damage increased with ...
