Insights into ALS‐inhibiting herbicide resistance in Poa annua in an arable cropping system
Variable cross‐resistance to ALS inhibitors in five Poa annua populations from wheat fields in Ireland caused by different TSR mutations. Abstract BACKGROUND Dependence on a single herbicide type to control a broad‐spectrum of weeds has resulted in cases of resistance to acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitors in weeds normally considered lower priority

Distribution, detection and genetic background of herbicide-resistant Alopecurus myosuroides (Huds.) in Germany [PDF]
Weed control is an important part in agricultural practice. Since selective herbicides were introduced, the labour-intensive mechanical weed control was replaced by chemicals.

This study identifies pollen from over 100 plant species—including wildflowers, food and crops—carried by hoverflies alighting onto an oilrig 200 km off the coast during seasonal migrations. Analysis of their movements indicates a huge potential to enhance long distance gene flow between plants and increase pollination services.

Virus-mediated transient expression techniques enable genetic modification ofAlopecurus myosuroides [PDF]
AbstractEven though considerable progress has been made in weed ecology, weed molecular biology has been hindered by an inability to genetically manipulate weeds. Genetic manipulation is essential to demonstrate a causative relationship between genotype and phenotype.

Cadou FORTE – a new herbicide in cereals with efficacy against grasses and dicots
Cadou FORTE (flufenacet; flurtamone; diflufenican) is a new cereal herbicide with efficacy against blackgrass (Alopecurus myosuroides), loose silky-bentgrass (Apera spica-venti L.), annual meadow-grass (Poa annua L.) and a broad spectrum of dicot weeds ...

The arable farmer as the assessor of within-field soil variation [PDF]
Feasible, fast and reliable methods of mapping within-field variation are required for precision agriculture. Within precision agriculture research much emphasis has been put on technology, whereas the knowledge that farmers have and ways to explore it ...

ABSTRACT Due to their size and corridor function, roadside verges are of concern for the conservation and protection of insects and other arthropods. Any opportunity to manage them in an insect‐friendly way, for example, insect‐friendly mowing technology, should be seen as an important contribution. Here we investigated the effectiveness of the EcoCut (

Summary Recent advancements in monocot transformation, using leaf tissue as explant material, have expanded the number of grass species capable of transgenesis. However, the complexity of vectors and reliance on inducible excision of essential morphogenic regulators have so far limited widespread application.
