Estimation of Snow Cover Parameters by ALOS-2 PALSAR Interferometry

IGARSS 2018 - 2018 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2018
An applicability of spaceborne radar interferometry for the measurements of snow layer thickness and snow water equivalent was studied. Experimental dataset in the measurements of thickness and snow water equivalent consisted of two datasets from ALOS-2 PALSAR observations made in snow free conditions and in the presence of snow cover.

Seasonal Change Analysis for ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 Deforestation Detection

IGARSS 2020 - 2020 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2020
JICA and JAXA have operated a tropical forest early warning system (JJ-FAST) since 2016 and ALOS-2 L-band SAR system (PALSAR-2/ScanSAR) is used for forest monitoring and deforestation detection. There are many factors to cause commission errors in SAR image and ground moisture is one of them.

An Assessment of Urban Area Extraction Using ALOS-2 Data

2019 9th International Conference on Recent Advances in Space Technologies (RAST), 2019
Urbanization has a dynamic structure especially in megacities and therefore rapid detection of the urban is vital for sustainable management of the city. In this work, we apply a multi-source feature data approach to investigate the urban area of Istanbul, Turkey which is a megacity with an approximate 15 million inhabitant, and under strong both ...

ALOS-2 development status and draft acquisition strategy

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
The Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2) will succeed to the radar mission of the ALOS “Daichi” which had contributed to cartography, regional observation, disaster monitoring, and earth resources surveys for more than 5 years until its termination of operation in May 2011.

Development status of PALSAR-2 onboard ALOS-2

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
The Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2) carries the state-of-the-art L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) called PALSAR-2. PALSAR-2 has a Spotlight mode (1 to 3 m), a Stripmap mode (3 to 10 m) and a ScanSAR mode, whilst PALSAR onboard ALOS had 10 m spatial resolution at best. The new technologies, such as maximum bandwidth allocation for L-

Hardware performance of L-band SAR system onboard ALOS-2

2011 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2011
Advanced Land Observation Satellite-2 (ALOS-2) is a space borne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system, which is the follow-on L-SAR satellite mission of ALOS. Compared to the previous mission ALOS/PALSAR, the new L-band SAR system is capable of achieving both high resolution (down to 1m) and wide swath (up to 500km), with an improved image quality. The

Polarimetric characteristics of temporarily coherent RFI in alos-2 palsar-2

2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017
This paper reports the polarimetric characteristics of temporarily coherent radio frequency interference (RFI) observed by ALOS-2 PALSAR-2. The RFI has high interferometric coherence as if it is a backscattered signal from the ground. However, its radio frequency band and the Doppler frequency are different from the backscattered signal.

Evaluation of Reinforced Slope Dynamics Using ALOS-2/PALSAR-2

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
Reinforced slope dynamics can be studied using the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) backscattering analysis. This study provides the results of the InSAR analysis obtained from the reinforced slope monitoring by ALOS-2/PALSAR- 2. The vertical displacement values from the GEONET and the Line-of-Sight InSAR analysis have been compared.

Pixel-Based Deforestation Detection Algorithm for ALOS-2/PALSAR-2

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
In order to reduce speckle noise effects in forest cover change analysis, two types of SAR processing approach have been proposed so far. One is a type of object-based segmentation approaches and another is pixel-based processing approaches using speckle noise filtering such as Lee and Frost filter.

Emergency observation and disaster monitoring performed by ALOS-2 PALSAR-2

2016 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2016
One of the main missions of the Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2, “DAICHI-2” ) is the disaster monitoring. Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has operated the emergency observation more than hundred times in 2015. Not only the most important event in 2015, the Mw 7.8 Gorkha earthquake on April 25, the Phased Array type L-band ...
