Deformation monitoring in the metro Manila using ALOS/PALSAR

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
Excessive pumping of groundwater in the Metro Manila district, the Philippines, has occurred huge land subsidence. The purpose of this study is to investigate the distribution of spatial and temporal change on the earth surface in this area. We measured long-term ground subsidence by InSAR using JERS-1/SAR, ENVISAT/ASAR, Fine-beam, polarimetry and ...

ALOS PALSAR Analysis of the Archaeological Site of Pelusium

Archaeological Prospection, 2013
ABSTRACTAn analysis of the archaeological site of Pelusium on the northeastern edge of the Nile Delta, Egypt, was carried out using phased array type L‐band synthetic aperture radar (PALSAR) data. The aim was to assess the potential of PALSAR to identify buried archaeological structures.

Internal waves in the Lombok strait revealed by ALOS PALSAR images

2011 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2011
The present article describes some results on the ALOS PALSAR imagery of internal waves (IWs) and other oceanic features in the Lombok strait. High resolution of Fine Mode observation of ALOS PALSAR images was used. Parameters of IWs such as wavelengths, a crest length and type of modulation were estimated from the images.

Retrieval of forest biomass for tropical deciduous mixed forest using ALOS PALSAR mosaic imagery and field plot data

International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation, 2018
Tropical forest is an important ecosystem rich in biodiversity and structural complexity with high woody biomass content. Longer wavelength radar data at L-band sensor provides improved forest biomass (AGB) information due to its higher penetration level

ALOS PALSAR: A Pathfinder Mission for Global-Scale Monitoring of the Environment

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2007
The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) is Japan's new-generation Earth Observation satellite, launched in January 2006 by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. ALOS carries two optical instruments (Panchromatic Remote-sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping and Advanced Visible and Near-Infrared Radiometer type 2) and, to maintain Japan's ...

Polarimetric observation for rice field by RADARSAT-2 and ALOS/PALSAR

2011 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2011
Full polanmetric L-band ALOS PALSAR and C-band RADARSAT-2 datasets observing paddy rice field, JAPAN were analyzed by polanmetric decomposition method. From the analysis results by three component decomposition method, remarkable seasonal change is observed by double bounce scattering component ratio on ALOS PALSAR data.

Land Cover Characterization and Classification using Polarimetric ALOS PALSAR

IGARSS 2008 - 2008 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2008
In this study, the Touzi and Cloude-Pottier decompositions are compared for land cover characterization using ALOS/PALSAR polarimetric data collected at September, 4, 2006, over the Weinan region of Shanxi Province in China, the most useful parameters are combined for land cover classification.

Potential value of combining ALOS PALSAR and Landsat-derived tree cover data for forest biomass retrieval in Madagascar

Remote Sensing of Environment, 2018
Reducing carbon emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD) requires detailed insight into how the forest biomass is measured and distributed. Studies so far have estimated forest biomass stocks using rough assumptions and unreliable data.

The bistatic SAR experiment with ALOS / PALSAR and Pi-SAR-L

2011 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2011
The first bistatic SAR experiment between Japanese spaceborne PALSAR and airborne Pi-SAR-L was successfully performed and gave an excellent image in 2010. This paper mainly reports the result of this bistatic SAR experiment and its data analysis. As the result of the analysis, two conclusions are confirmed.
