Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Large Field Alpha Irradiation Setup for Radiobiological Experiments

open access: yesMethods and Protocols, 2019
The use of alpha particles irradiation in clinical practice has gained interest in the past years, for example with the advance of radionuclide therapy. The lack of affordable and easily accessible irradiation systems to study the cell biological impact ...

A Compact Spin‐Coated Graphene UWB Antenna for Breast Tumor Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A compact, spin‐coated graphene ultra‐wideband patch antenna designed for breast tumor detection, capable of distinguishing between malignant and benign tumors. This innovative antenna can serve as an effective initial screening tool, particularly in resource‐limited settings such as rural areas, where access to advanced medical equipment like MRI and ...

Influence of alpha-particle energy slowing-down and mass deposition effects on ICF hotspot burning

open access: yesAIP Advances
Based on our previous work on the double-temperature hotspot model, an alpha-particle quasi-steady-state slowing-down hotspot model is further developed in this paper to study the influence of alpha-particle energy slowing down and mass deposition ...

Scattering of alpha-particles by55Mn

open access: yesIl Nuovo Cimento B Series 10, 1969
The elastic and inelastic scattering of 50 MeV alpha-particles by55Mn has been measured. The angular distributions of the scattered alphas from several excited levels were analyzed by means of the distorted-wave Born approximation. Transition strengths were determined for most of the levels observed.

A Thermodynamic 3D Model for the Simulation of Diffusion‐Controlled Alloying Processes in Heterogeneous Material Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical model resulting from irreversible thermodynamics for describing transport processes is introduced, focusing on thermodynamic activity gradients as the actual driving force for diffusion. Implemented in CUDA C++ and using CalPhaD methods for determining the necessary activity data, the model accurately simulates interdiffusion in aluminum ...

Metastability of reversible condensed zero range processes on a finite set

open access: yes, 2009
Let $r: S\times S\to \bb R_+$ be the jump rates of an irreducible random walk on a finite set $S$, reversible with respect to some probability measure $m$. For $\alpha >1$, let $g: \bb N\to \bb R_+$ be given by $g(0)=0$, $g(1)=1$, $g(k) = (k/k-1)^\alpha$,

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Radon in caves: clinical aspects [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Speleology, 2006
Historical, experimental and clinical evidence is presented to suggest that radon constitutes a relatively small carcinogenic risk for casual visitors to caves. The risk is dependent on radon levels and the smoking of tobacco.
