Impact of modification and wall thickness on the properties of AlSi12 alloy

2021
The effect of sodium and strontium modification and the wall thickness on solidification, microstructure and mechanical properties of eutectic AlSi12 alloy were analysed. Modification of eutectic (αAl+βSi) leads to transformation of eutectic βSi phase morphology, from coarse lamellar to fine fibrous, in order to improve mechanical properties.

Thermographic analysis of AlSi12 during crystallisation as a function of cooling rate

International Journal of Materials Research, 2009
Abstract At the Institute of Materials Science of the Leibniz University of Hannover, investigations were carried out to better understand the crystallisation processes of the cast alloy AlSi12. Here, the influence of different cooling rates was investigated in-situ and ex-situ. The temperatures of the geometric specimens were determined

EVALUATION OF THE WETTABILITY OF CARBON FIBERS WITH ALUMINUM ALLOY ALSI12

Technology of Metals
A methodic for assessing the wetting of carbon fibers with melt was improved, and a wettability assessment device was developed and assembled. A comparative assessment of the wettability of carbon fibers with a foundry aluminum alloy was conducted, which made it possible to identify an improvement in the indicator for fibers with coatings.

Laser welding of ALSI12 and S355 with a 10 kW single mode fiber laser

ICALEO 2018: 37th International Congress on Applications of Lasers & Electro-Optics, 2018
In this study, fast welding of an aluminum alloy AlSi12 and a structural steel S355 was investigated using a single mode fiber laser system delivering a maximum laser power of 10 kW with a laser beam quality of M² = 2. The laser beam was focused with a welding head OL YW50 F500 HQ from Precitec GmbH & Co.

Influence of Ag content on microstructure and intermetallic phases of AlSi12 alloy

International Journal of Cast Metals Research, 2013
The main objective of this study is to examine the influence of trace additions of silver on the morphology and composition of the complex microstructure of the intermetallic phases in AlSi12 alloy. Intermetallics were found in short or long rod, or ‘Chinese Script’, forms containing Si, Fe, Mn, Ag and Mg, These compounds became richer towards the ...

Wear properties of hybrid AlSi12 matrix syntactic foams

International Journal of Materials Research, 2015
Abstract Hollow sphere reinforced aluminum matrix composites – so-called syntactic foams – were produced by means of low pressure infiltration. Commercial AlSi12 aluminum alloy was applied as the matrix material. The overall volume fraction of the reinforcing iron (GM) and ceramic (GC) hollow spheres was maintained at ∼64 vol.%, but ...

Influence of the AlSi12 alloy inoculation on the microstructure and mechanical properties development

Livarski vestnik, 2021
Due to a wide range of favourable properties, aluminium alloys found its application in almost all industrial branches. Potential of improving the usage properties has been recognized through forming of favourable intermetallic in mutual interaction of numerous alloying elements such as silicon, copper or magnesium, along with trace elements such as ...

Utjecajni parametri na homogenost aluminijske metalne pjene AlSi12

2004
The development of metal foams results in an increasing need for the industrial application of such materials. Metal foams are shaped by the pouring technology which differs depending on which mechanism of pore production is used. This paper presents some of the basic parameters which influence the homogeneity of the metal foam structure.
