A Survey of Viruses of Alstroemeria in the UK and the Characterisation of Carlaviruses Infecting Alstroemeria

Alstroemeria samples collected in the UK were tested for a range of viruses using ELISA. Allergic Contact Dermatitis to Alstroemeria

Two female florists developed dermatitis of the fingertips. Patch testing revealed allergic contact dermatitis to the flower, Alstroemeria, used in floral arrangements. They had positive patch tests to portions of Alstroemeria, and to tuliposide A, the allergen in this plant.

Mutation breeding of Alstroemeria

Actively growing young rhizomes of various Alstroemeria cultivars, most sterile hybrids, were treated with X-rays. The optimum dose was about 400 rad for diploid cultivars and 500–600 rad for triploid ones. IDENTIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POTYVIRUSES OF ALSTROEMERIA SPP.

Several viruses have been reported to infect Alstroemeria. The two most important ones are considered to be Alstroemeria mosaic (AIMV) and Alstroemeria streak virus (AISV). Both AIMV and AISV react in ELISA with a commonly used antiserum to AIMV. There are indications that potyviruses other than AIMV and AISV also occur in Alstroemeria.
