Pentagonal 2D Altermagnets: Material Screening and Altermagnetic Tunneling Junction Device Application

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
From a database of 170 pentagonal 2D materials, 4 candidates exhibiting altermagnetic ordering are screened. Furthermore, the spin‐splitting and unconventional boundary states in the pentagonal 2D altermagnetic monolayer MnS2 are investigated. A MnS2‐based altermagnetic tunneling junction is designed and, through ab initio quantum transport simulations,

Dry Bean Pest Scouting Report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A survey of dry bean pests was conducted on farms throughout Vermont during the 2016 season. Plant diseases and insect pests were scouted on five Vermont farm locations in the towns of Alburgh, Cambridge, Danby, Glover, and North Ferrisburg.

2D Multifunctional Spin‐Orbit Coupled Dirac Nodal Line Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A total of 473 nonmagnetic and antiferromagnetic 2D spin‐orbit coupled Dirac nodal line materials are screened, spanning 5 layer groups and 12 magnetic space groups. Furthermore, it integrates their topological properties with electride, multiferroic, and magnetic characteristics, revealing unique systems with expanded functionalities and promising ...

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

Prospects of Electric Field Control in Perpendicular Magnetic Tunnel Junctions and Emerging 2D Spintronics for Ultralow Energy Memory and Logic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electric control of magnetic tunnel junctions offers a path to drastically reduce the energy requirements of the device. Electric field control of magnetization can be realized in a multitude of ways. These mechanisms can be integrated into existing spintronic devices to further reduce the operational energy.

Control of sugar-beet nematode: Field tests with soil fumigants indicate crop rotation using non-host plants is most effective control of sugar beet pest

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1958
Chemical control of the sugar-beet nematode—Heterodera schachtii—would eliminate disadvantages of control by crop rotation which normally requires at least 3—4 years of non-host crops.

Z‐Scheme Water Splitting Systems Based on Solid‐State Electron Conductors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines the latest advances in Z‐scheme overall water splitting (OWS) systems for solar hydrogen production. These systems consist of suspended or immobilized hydrogen evolution photocatalysts (HEPs) and oxygen evolution photocatalysts (OEPs).

French prune trees: Refuge for grape leafhopper parasite

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1989
Prune trees planted next to vineyards allow early-season buildup of Anagrus epos, an important parasite of the grape leafhopper. After surviving the winter on an alternate host, the prune leafhopper, Anagrus moves into the vineyard in the spring ...

Ages of Exoplanet Host-Stars from Asteroseismology : HD 17156, a Case Study

open access: yes, 2011
The characterization of the growing number of newly discovered exoplanets ---nature, internal structure, formation and evolution--- strongly relies on the properties of their host-star, i.e. its mass, radius and age.
