Alternating-Direction Line-Relaxation Methods on Multicomputers [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 1996
The authors develop an alternating direction line-relaxation method on multicomputers. Several microcomputer performances are implemented. Best results are obtained with a modified half Gauss-Seidel line-relaxation method. Computations are illustrated with numerical experiments.

Proximal Alternating Direction Method with Relaxed Proximal Parameters for the Least Squares Covariance Adjustment Problem

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
We consider the problem of seeking a symmetric positive semidefinite matrix in a closed convex set to approximate a given matrix. This problem may arise in several areas of numerical linear algebra or come from finance industry or statistics and thus has

Nonconvex generalization of Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers for nonlinear equality constrained problems

open access: yesResults in Control and Optimization, 2021
The classic Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) is a popular framework to solve linear-equality constrained problems. In this paper, we extend the ADMM naturally to nonlinear equality-constrained problems, called neADMM.

Linearized Alternating Direction Method with Adaptive Penalty and Warm Starts for Fast Solving Transform Invariant Low-Rank Textures

open access: yes, 2013
Transform Invariant Low-rank Textures (TILT) is a novel and powerful tool that can effectively rectify a rich class of low-rank textures in 3D scenes from 2D images despite significant deformation and corruption.

An alternating direction method for total variation denoising [PDF]

open access: yesOptimization Methods and Software, 2014
We consider the image denoising problem using total variation (TV) regularization. This problem can be computationally challenging to solve due to the non-differentiability and non-linearity of the regularization term. We propose an alternating direction augmented Lagrangian (ADAL) method, based on a new variable splitting approach that results in ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Self-Adaptive Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers for Image Denoising

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In this study, we introduce a novel self-adaptive alternating direction method of multipliers tailored for image denoising. Our approach begins by formulating a collaborative regularization model that upholds structured sparsity within images while ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

An Alternating Direction Method for Mixed Gaussian Plus Impulse Noise Removal

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
A combined total variation and high-order total variation model is proposed to restore blurred images corrupted by impulse noise or mixed Gaussian plus impulse noise. We attack the proposed scheme with an alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM)

On the Convergence of Alternating Direction Lagrangian Methods for Nonconvex Structured Optimization Problems

open access: yes, 2015
Nonconvex and structured optimization problems arise in many engineering applications that demand scalable and distributed solution methods. The study of the convergence properties of these methods is in general difficult due to the nonconvexity of the ...
