An Alternating Direction Method for Solving the Biharmonic Equation [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Tables and Other Aids to Computation, 1958
The purpose of this paper is to present an alternating direction implicit iterative method for solving the biharmonic equation which appears to be more efficient than any of the known relaxation methods. The procedure is an extension of a method developed by Douglas and Rachford [1] for solving diffusion equations in two or more space variables.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

Advancing Age Modulates Associations Between Cognitive Impairment and Brain Volumes in Early MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Cognitive impairment is common in multiple sclerosis (MS), but manifestations following the first demyelinating event are relatively unexplored. We investigated cross‐sectional associations between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)–derived brain volumes and the presence of cognitive impairment outcomes five years after the first ...

Alternating proximal penalization algorithm for the modified multiple-sets split feasibility problems

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2018
In this paper, we present an extended alternating proximal penalization algorithm for the modified multiple-sets feasibility problem. For this method, we first show that the sequences generated by the algorithm are summable, which guarantees that the ...

Design of Optimal Sparse Feedback Gains via the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers

open access: yes, 2013
We design sparse and block sparse feedback gains that minimize the variance amplification (i.e., the $H_2$ norm) of distributed systems. Our approach consists of two steps.

Preferences for Posttraumatic Osteoarthritis Prevention Strategies in Individuals With Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective There is growing interest in evaluating new strategies to delay or prevent posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) in individuals who have sustained anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This study sought to determine characteristics of potential treatments that are acceptable to patients with ACL injury. Methods Participants with a history of

Numerical simulation of evolution of viscous debris flows considering interface

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2019
Based on the interface theory, taking the corresponding surface of the yielding depth of debris flows as the interface, the viscous debris flow can be divided into ideal fluid and Bingham fluid.
