The Navarro conjecture for the alternating groups [PDF]

open access: yesAlgebra & Number Theory, 2021
Recently Navarro proposed a strengthening of the unsolved McKay conjecture using Galois automorphisms. We prove that the Navarro conjecture holds for the alternating groups when the prime p is odd.

OD-characterization of alternating groups Ap+d

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2017
Let An be an alternating group of degree n. Some authors have proved that A10, A147 and A189 cannot be OD-characterizable. On the other hand, others have shown that A16, A23+4, and A23+5 are OD-characterizable.

The real genus of the alternating groups

open access: yesRevista Matemática Iberoamericana, 2008
A Klein surface with boundary of algebraic genus \mathfrak{p}\geq 2 , has at most 12(\mathfrak{p}-1) automorphisms. The groups attaining this upper bound are called

On the representation theory of the alternating groups [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Group Theory, 2013
We present the basic results on the representation theory of the alternating groups. Our approach is based on Clifford theory.

On generalized blocks for alternating groups

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 2006
For a finite group \(G\) and a union of conjugacy classes, \(\mathcal C\), of \(G\), \textit{B.~Külshammer, J.~B.~Olsson} and \textit{G.~R.~Robinson} [Invent. Math. 151, No. 3, 513-552 (2003; Zbl 1043.20007)] introduced the notion of a \(\mathcal C\)-block of \(G\) generalizing the classical notion of a \(p\)-block for a prime \(p\).

Covering Theorem for Alternating Groups

open access: yesIbn Al-Haitham Journal for Pure and Applied Sciences, 2005
For the alternating group An J. L. Brenner, through a series of papers showed that the class C of n- cycle or (n-1)- cycle, CCC covers A, for n = 4k - 1, 4k and 4k + 1, In this paper, the contumacy class of type (2)(n-2),n>6and n 1S even was studied ...

The cohomology of the alternating groups. [PDF]

open access: yesMichigan Mathematical Journal, 1985
Let p be an odd prime. The author investigates mod p-cohomology of the alternating group \(A_{p^ n}\). He exploits the fact that in this case the regular representation \(({\mathbb{Z}}/p)^ n\hookrightarrow S_{p^ n}\) in the symmetric group factors through the alternating group.

String C-group representations of alternating groups [PDF]

open access: yesArs Mathematica Contemporanea, 2019
We prove that for any integer $n\geq 12$, and for every $r$ in the interval $[3, \ldots, \lfloor (n-1)/2\rfloor]$, the group $A_n$ has a string C-group representation of rank $r$ therefore showing that the only alternating group whose set of ranks is not an interval is $A_{11}$.

On base sizes for symmetric groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A base of a permutation group G on a set is a subset B of such that the pointwise stabilizer of B in G is trivial. The base size of G, denoted by b(G), is the minimal cardinality of a base.
