HSPB1 Is Essential for Inducing Resistance to Proteotoxic Stress in Beta-Cells

open access: yesCells, 2021
During type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) development, beta-cells undergo intense endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress that could result in apoptosis through the failure of adaptation to the unfolded protein response (UPR).

Hyperations, Veblen progressions and transfinite iterations of ordinal functions

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we introduce hyperations and cohyperations, which are forms of transfinite iteration of ordinal functions. Hyperations are iterations of normal functions. Unlike iteration by pointwise convergence, hyperation preserves normality.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Targeting IKKβ in Cancer: Challenges and Opportunities for the Therapeutic Utilisation of IKKβ Inhibitors

open access: yesCells, 2018
Deregulated NF-κB signalling is implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous human inflammatory disorders and malignancies. Consequently, the NF-κB pathway has attracted attention as an attractive therapeutic target for drug discovery.

Combined effects of antibiotics and acidified nitrite on biofilm formation by beta-lactamase-producing uropathogenic bacteria

open access: yesZanco Journal of Medical Sciences, 2023
Background and objective: The increased prevalence of extended- spectrum beta-lactamase producing Enterobacteriaceae has increased the use of last-resort antimicrobial drugs like Carbapenems.

Hexose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase modulates the effect of inhibitors and alternative substrates of 11[beta]-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Intracellular glucocorticoid reactivation is catalyzed by 11[beta]-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (11[beta]-HSD1), which functions predominantly as a reductase in cells expressing hexose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (H6PDH).

Kinematical Test of Large Extra Dimension in Beta Decay Experiments

open access: yes, 2013
The forthcoming experiments on neutrino mass measurement using beta decay, open a new window to explore the Large Extra Dimension model. The Kaluza-Klein tower of neutrinos in Large Extra Dimension contribute to the Kurie function of beta decay that can ...

Heterotic/Heterotic Duality in D=6,4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We consider $E_8\times E_8$ heterotic compactifications on $K3$ and $K3\times T^2$. The idea of heterotic/heterotic duality in $D=6$ has difficulties for generic compactifications since for large dilaton values some gauge groups acquire negative kinetic ...

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...
