Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Sintering temperature-microstructure-property relationships of alumina matrix composites with silicon carbide and silica additives

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2017
Alumina-based composites were fabricated by reaction sintering from two different sintering powder mixtures: alumina with silica (SiO2) and alumina with silicon carbide (SiC; to allow oxidation to form SiO2).

Multivariate Analysis on a Complex, Rare-Earth Doped Alumina Database with Fractal Dimension as a Microstructural Quantifier

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2023
Alumina ceramics were obtained from three different alumina sources, A1–A3, with various rare-earth dopants (La2O3–La, Nd2O3–Nd, and Y2O3–Y), concentration levels (500 and 1000 ppm) and synthesizing routes (1500 °C, 1815 °C and cold plasma-P). Absorption

TG, FT-IR and NMR characterization of n-C16H34 contaminated alumina and silica after mechanochemical treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper deals with the application of mechanochemistry to model systems composed of alumina or silica artificially contaminated with n-C16H34. The mechanochemical treatment was carried out by means of a ring mill for times ranging from 10 to 40 h ...

Alumina applied in bone regeneration: Porous α-alumina and transition alumina

open access: yesCerâmica, 2022
Abstract Alumina is a polymorphic bioceramic that has been extensively investigated for application in bone regeneration. Dense α-alumina has been considered a suitable biomaterial for dental and orthopedic implants due to its superior mechanical properties. However, its use is limited due to its high inertia in a biological environment.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.
