Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry: Current and future approaches

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, Volume 38, Issue 14, 30 July 2024.
Rationale Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry (KEMS) has been a powerful tool in physical chemistry since 1954. There are many excellent reviews of the basic principles of KEMS in the literature. In this review, we focus on the current status and potential growth areas for this instrumental technique.

Preparation and Characterization of Ti‐6‐4 and Ti‐8‐1‐1 Metal Matrix Composites with High Specific Stiffness Using Powder Hot Extrusion and Arc Remelting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 26, Issue 14, July 2024.
Powder hot extrusion and heat treatment of titanium metal matrix composite's lead to high specific stiffnesses of 34.6 GPa cm3 g−1. Remelting, to simulate an additive manufacturing method, of these materials results in severe changes of the microstructure and a decrease in the mechanical properties even with ex situ reinforcements. Titanium alloys with

Formation of Protective Silicide-Aluminide Coating on Gamma-TiAl Advanced Material

open access: yes, 2019
In this study, the Si-aluminide coating was prepared on gamma-TiAl [Ti-45Al-2Nb-2Mn-1B (at. %)] via liquid-phase slurry procedure. The high temperature oxidation resistance of this diffusion coating was evaluated at 1100 °C for 400 hours.

Deposition of a low-activity type cobalt-modified aluminide coating by slurry aluminizing of a pre-Co-electroplated Ni-based superalloy (IN738LC)

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Incorporating the Co element into the β-NiAl phase as a third element enhances the hot corrosion and oxidation properties of aluminide coatings. The deposition of Co-modified aluminide coatings is limited to co-deposition by the pack cementation method ...

Oxidation Behavior of Non-Modified and Rhodium- or Palladium-Modified Aluminide Coatings Deposited on CMSX-4 Superalloy

open access: yesMetals, 2018
Rhodium-modified as well as palladium-modified and non-modified aluminide coatings on CMSX-4 Ni-based superalloy were oxidized in air atmosphere at 1100 °C. Uncoated substrate of CMSX-4 superalloy was also oxidized.

Tooling in Spark Plasma Sintering Technology: Design, Optimization, and Application

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 26, Issue 5, March 2024.
The review highlights all aspects of tooling in spark plasma sintering (SPS) technology starting from basic configuration to design adapted to the manufacturing of complex‐shaped parts. Modeling and optimization are essential issues in SPS tooling design. Upscaling and industrialization of SPS require multiple die tooling.

Destructive Effect of Water Vapour on an In Situ Diffusion Barrier Layer within an Aluminide Coating on IN738 Alloy

open access: yes, 2018
High-temperature interdiffusion within a hot-dipped aluminide (Al-10 wt.% Si) coating on an IN738 superalloy was investigated at 1050 °C in air and in air plus water vapour. The resulting morphology of in situ diffusion barrier layer (DBL) within the

Influence of surface treatment on metal dusting resistance of welds

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 75, Issue 3, Page 371-385, March 2024.
Fe contaminations enhanced metal dusting pit formation on brushed welds of Ni‐based alloys. The best performance of the welds was achieved by grinding, this is attributed to the deformation of the sub‐surface zone. Additional protection by on‐site slurry aluminization was successfully demonstrated.
