Crushing modes of aluminium tubes under axial compression [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
A numerical study of the crushing of circular aluminium tubes with and without aluminium foam fillers has been carried out to investigate their buckling behaviours under axial compression. A crushing mode classification chart has been established for empty tubes. The influence of boundary conditions on crushing mode has also been investigated.

An Alternative to Clay in Building Materials: Red Mud Sintering Using Fly Ash via Taguchi’s Methodology

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2013
“Red mud” or “bauxite residue” is a highly alkaline waste generated from alumina refinery with a pH of 10.5–12.5 which poses serious environmental problems.

How Slight Solidification Rate Variations within Cast Plate Affect Mechanical Response: A Study on As-Cast A356 Alloy with Cu Additions

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
The present work investigates a narrow range of secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS), in an as-cast A356 alloy with and without copper (Cu) additions. Cu was added to the base A356 alloy melt to reach the target concentration of 0.5 and 1 wt.%.

A life cycle inventory of aluminium die casting

open access: yes, 2003
As part of an ongoing project, a life cycle inventory (LCI) of aluminium high pressure die casting (HPDC) has been collected. This has been conducted from the view of an individual product and also the entire process.

Effect of thermal exposure on microstructure and high-temperature fatigue life of Al-Si piston alloys

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
A very effective approach is proposed here to increase the high-temperature fatigue life of an Al-Si piston alloy. Compared with traditional T6 heat treatment, the high-temperature fatigue life can be improved by three times of magnitude with thermal ...

Zaporizhia

open access: yesЛитьë и металлургия, 2008
In article the work of a line on manufacture of an aluminum rolled wire by a method of continuous casting is considered. The cooling conditions influence of an aluminum rolled wire on an output from the rolling mill on its strength is investigated.

Machine-learnt potential highlights melting and freezing of aluminium nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We investigated the complete thermodynamic cycle of aluminium nanoparticles through classical molecular dynamics simulations, spanning a wide size range from 200 atoms to 11000 atoms. The aluminium-aluminium interactions are modelled using a newly developed Bayesian Force Field (BFF) from the FLARE suite, a cutting-edge tool in our field.
