Reinforcement in aluminium metal matrix composites

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2019
Metal matrix composites offer a number of advantages compared to their base metals, such as higher specific strengths and moduli, higher elevated temperature resistance, lower coefficients of thermal expansion, and, in some cases, better wear resistance. On the down side, they are more expensive than their base metals and have lower toughness.

Corrosion behaviour of aluminium matrix composites

Journal of Materials Science, 1995
Samples of aluminium alloy 2014 reinforced with 20–40 vol % of alumina or silicon carbide particles were tested by the potentiodynamic polarization technique. The chosen medium was 0.1m lithium perchlorate which tends to cause localized corrosion. The measurements revealed no impairment of the corrosion performance of the matrix alloy as a result of ...

Aluminium Matrix Composites: B2 Aluminide Strengthening

Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, 2023
The influence of the B2 aluminide particulate reinforcement (up to 5 wt%) on the mechanical properties of pure aluminium is investigated for the first time. Aluminium metal matrix composites AMMCs are synthesized by the stir casting route using mechanical stirring. The B2-aluminide particles with a size of about ?

The effect of La2O3 addition on intermetallic-free aluminium matrix composites reinforced with TiC and Al2O3 ceramic particles

Ceramics International, 2019
In this work, intermetallic-free aluminium matrix composites reinforced with TiC and Al2O3 ceramic particles were successfully prepared via an in situ reaction of Al-Ti-C-CuO-La2O3 during self-propagating high-temperature synthesis.

Study of Si3N4 reinforcement on the morphological and tribo-mechanical behaviour of aluminium matrix composites

Materials Research Express, 2019
Aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMCs) are the fastest growing metal matrix composites (MMCs) for the applications in several fields i.e.; automobile, aerospace and structural. The properties of these composites depend upon the reinforcement and their

Tribology and Aluminium Matrix Composites

2015
Knowledge of tribology is very old but much attention has been paid only in the 20th century. It is science and technology of interacting surfaces in sliding, rolling, or any other kind of motion. Tribology includes knowledge of wear, friction, and lubrication, which is of much importance in designing of machine components.

SiC-reinforced aluminium metal matrix composites

International Materials Reviews, 1985
AbstractReasonably inexpensive sources for SiC whiskers and/or particulates have spurred the development of SiC-reinforced AI-base alloys. The published information on the metallurgical science of AI-SiC composites is reviewed. It is found that the elastic stiffening benefits of the SiC whiskers are understood in terms of continuum mechanics models ...

Damping behaviour of aluminium matrix composites

Materials Science and Technology, 2004
AbstractThe damping behaviour of 6061Al/SiC/Gr and 6013Al/SiC/Gr hybrid metal matrix composites, which were fabricated by spray codeposition, was studied. From the experimental results, it was found that a damping peak at ~150°C existed in the damping spectra of these composites, no matter whether measured during heating or cooling. Through a series of
