Aluminothermic SHS reactions: effect of scaling

The influence of scale effects-sample diameter, sample length, and sample mass—on combustion of CrO3-Cr2O3-C-Al, CrO3-Cr2O3-B2O3-Al, and NiO-Cr2O3-Nb2O5-WO3-MoO3-C-Al green mixtures was explored. Suggested was a qualitative model based on the behavior of the melt within and behind of the combustion front.
