Micropyretic synthesis of MoSi2 powders through an aluminothermic reaction
Journal of Materials Research, 1999An aluminothermic reaction starting with inexpensive MoO3, SiO2, and Al powders was utilized to prepare molybdenum disilicide (MoSi2) powders by the micropyretic/combustion synthesis process and leaching. The combustion-synthesized product was porous and could readily be crushed into powders.

Effects of Reaction Temperature and Time on the Aluminothermic Reduction of Magnesia
Advanced Materials Research, 2012The present paper focuses on the experimental investigation of the aluminothermic reduction of magnesia under vacuum condition with the fixed magnesia to aluminum molar ratio of 11:6. The influences of reaction temperature and time on the reduction ratio of magnesia were studied.

Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis of Al2O3-TiC-Al composites by aluminothermic reactions
Journal of Materials Science, 2001Al2O3-TiC-Al composites were fabricated by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis process using aluminothermic reactions with titania, aluminum, and graphite powders. As the molar ratio x of the excessive aluminum in the reactants increases, the adiabatic temperature of the reaction and the melting rate of alumina in the products obviously ...

Laser-Initiated Aluminothermic Reaction Applied to Preparing Mo-Si Film on Silicon Substrates
MRS Proceedings, 1987ABSTRACTMo-Si films on silicon substrates has been prepared by the CO2 laser-initiated aluminothermic reaction. The features of these films have been characterized by RBS, AES, etc. The formation mechanism is discussed.

Composite ceramics in powder or sintered form obtained by aluminothermal reactions
Materials Science and Engineering, 1985Abstract Work has been carried out to synthesize composite materials by taking advantage of the energy given off during the aluminothermal reaction. Compositions and procedures are described for obtaining, in this way, materials of the following three systems: MoSi2Al2O3 powder mixtures (possibly for heating elements), TiCAl2O3 powder mixtures ...

Abstract In this research, the effect of aluminothermic reaction on the progress of carbothermic reaction in simultaneous mechanochemical reduction of CuO and ZnO has been studied. A mixture of CuO and ZnO powders along with different amounts of aluminum and graphite was milled in a planetary ball-milling machine.
