Ni-65wt%Nb alloy by aluminothermic reduction process
International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, 2000Abstract Ni–Nb alloys have been used as master-alloy in the production of Ni-based superalloys containing niobium. In the case of INCONEL 718, the most used superalloy, the niobium content is in the range 5.0–5.5 wt%. The aim of this work is to present results related to the production of Ni-65wt%Nb alloy by aluminothermic reduction process.

The aluminothermic reduction of boric acid
International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, 2010Abstract The effect of metallic aluminium powder on the production of boron carbide–alumina composite was studied. Boric acid, carbon and aluminium powders were mixed in stoichiometric ratio, ball milled and heat treated at temperatures between 1300 and 1650 °C for 1–5 h in the presence of argon flow.

Phase relations in the aluminothermic reduction of ZrO2
Inorganic Materials, 2012This paper presents thermodynamic evaluation of reactions between ZrO2 and aluminum, which indicates that the aluminothermic reduction of zirconium oxides at temperatures above 600°C is only possible when AlxZry intermetallic compounds form in the metallic phase. Thermodynamic analysis results are supported by experimental data, which demonstrate that,

New Aspects in Aluminothermic Reduction of SiO2
1987This paper reports on a processing sequence in which the production of silicon by aluminothermic reduction of quartz sand is conducted in a flux system at temperatures above the melting point of silicon. The flux — for instance calcium silicate — serves simultaneously as a solvent for the aluminum oxide formed and as a liquid-liquid extraction medium ...

Efficiency of Steel Casting Production by Aluminothermic Metal Reduction
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015Conventional recycling methods of industrial waste such as ferrous and non-ferrous chips and broken graphite are ineffective. In this paper we investigate exothermic remelting of industrial waste. Parameters of the most effective recycling conditions which result in a maximal yield of reduced metal and high efficiency of steel casting have been ...

Columbium metal by the aluminothermic reduction of Cb2O5
JOM, 1966A practical process has been developed for the preparation of high-purity, ductile columbium metal. The process consists of reducing Cb2O5 with aluminum powder in a “bomb”-type reduction. The massive columbium contains approximately 2 wt % Al and 0.8 wt % O2.

Ti-Al-C MAX phases by aluminothermic reduction process
International Journal of Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis, 2008A new approach to synthesis of Ti2AlC-Ti3AlC2/Al2O3 compounds is developed based on thermite reaction in the TiO2-Al-C system. The effect of Al excess is also discussed. XRD analysis has proved that this parameter can be used to improve the product purity, i.e., the amount of TiC in the final product.

Molybdenum metal by the aluminothermic reduction of calcium molybdate
Metallurgical Transactions, 1973This investigation deals with a process for extracting molybdenum metal in well consoli-dated form and in good yield from calcium molybdate, by open aluminothermic reduction. Aluminothermic molybdenum has been further processed both by electron-beam melting and by molten salt electrorefining for the removal of aluminum.

Refractory materials from aluminothermal reduction of niobium slag
Refractories, 1993Slag from aluminothermal reduction of niobium meets the requirements imposed on the raw material for corundum refractory materials. Stabilization of the phase composition and the structure of the slag powder occurs in firing up to 1100°C. The low strength of 5-0.315 mm fraction grains is caused by oxidation of Nb localized in the volume and is ...

A kinetic study on the aluminothermic reduction of ZrO2
Materials Today: Proceedings, 2019Abstract This paper discusses the results of a study related to the elaboration of Al-Zr alloys, from the aluminothermic reduction of zirconium oxide. The addition of the ZrO2 was performed by two different techniques: 1) using the technique of submerged powders injection, and 2) powders addition with mechanical agitation.
